San Francisco DVD Signing
By B&TF
Additional Photos
The DVD signing event on January 13 in San Francisco wasn’t
advertised as wide as the Curve magazine gala party,
but surprisingly, there were still a lot of fans who came
to the Virgin Megastore to get the brand-new Season 3 DVDs
and get them signed by The L Word cast members.

Kate Moennig, Leisha Hailey, Pam Grier, and Ilene Chaiken
came into the store right after 2 pm and were escorted to
the table to get ready for the signing. They were chatting
with each other, laughing, and appearing to be in jovial mood.
The crowd was a very excited crowd, and they were bringing
all sorts of things to be signed: DVDs, books, promo photos,
old pictures of Foxy Brown for Pam, magazines, posters, bags,
their cell phones, and even tennis shoes.
The cast members were excited, as well,
joking with the fans and with each other, posing for
the pictures and even finding a minute to enjoy some
cupcakes that were made especially for them by an avid
fan.
While I was there taking pictures, I took some time
to observe the cast members. They were wonderful, really
at ease with different situations and willingly accommodating
the needs of their fans.

One girl was talking on the phone to
her girlfriend and then suddenly gave the phone to Leisha
and asked her to say hi to the girlfriend. After Leisha
talked to her for a few minutes, she gave the phone
to Kate who also spoke to the fan’s girlfriend.
I can only imagine how excited that person was to hear
some of her favorite characters talking to her on the
phone.
I keep hearing during all my travels for The L Word
events that the original cast members are very close
friends and spend a lot of time together during the
filming and even after. This is definitely true for
Leisha and Kate who appeared to be great friends from
the way they talked and laughed with each other.
Pam was very open, friendly, and kind. At one point
she was swaying to the music that was playing on the
background and laughed with the fans when they asked
her to sign some Foxy Brown pictures. There were a few
fans that had never watched The L Word but knew Pam
as Foxy. Even I made a comment that in her abortion
clinic in episode 401 she reminded me of that character.
Pam replied with a laugh that at least she didn’t
punch anyone.

Ilene was very composed
and delightful as well. She was given a bouquet
of flowers by a fan and enjoyed her time talking
to Pam and to all those who asked for the autographs
and pictures.
Just before 4 pm the last fans went trough the
table, and I was the last one to get their autographs.
I said my goodbyes, thanked them for being so
accommodating while I was taking their pictures,
and then I was on my way back to the hotel to
change for the Curve magazine party that was held
the same night.
