| RENEWED:
TLW gets Season 5 |
|
|
TLW fans have been anxious in recent
weeks. Collectively, we looked at our calendars, knowing that
in the past 3 seasons, the following season of the show was
already in the bag.
With each turn of the calendar page, fans grew increasingly
nervous about the likelihood of the show being renewed. Today,
March 8, the announcement we have been waiting for finally
was made by Showtime--there WILL be a Season 5.
|
Twelve new episodes are set to begin production this summer and
premiere on SHOWTIME sometime in early 2008.
"THE L WORD® is a signature franchise for us and one of
our most popular series,” says Greenblatt. “This season's
guest star Cybill Shepherd and new series regular Marlee Matlin
are indicative of the show's great quality.
L-word.com reporter B&Tfan reported in January that Marlee
Matlin has a three year contract with the show. Fans of the Bette
and Tina pairing were not happy about that news, speculating that
Jodie (Marlee Matlin) will become a long term love-interest for
Bette. In recent weeks, fans of the couple were given some glimmers
of hope, beginning with Tina telling Bette that she loved her and
missed her.
Season 4 storyline criticisms are plentiful:
--Jenny is still/again absolutely abhorable in many episodes. First,
she exhibited her oh-so-selfish and duplicitous side by adopting
a dying dog just to get close to a vet she was trying to manipulate.
In recent episodes, she's exhibiting serious lack of loyalty to
her friend Tina, who is competing for film rights to Jenny's story.
--Tina has barely gotten any screen time and is being portrayed
in a not very favorable light.
--Again, Shane finds herself in a heartbreaking situation. Shane
was thrown into caring for her younger brother after her father
ran off and her step mother dropped the boy on her doorstep. Shane
stepped up and become a terrific surrogate parent, only to have
her father take the boy from her in last week's episode. We last
saw Shane fall to the ground in grief.
--The Max character remains seriously unpopular. It seems the feelings
of Season 3 cannot be overcome for the majority of fans, in spite
of the story developments this season that show Max as a more likeable
and decent person. Max even goes so far as to out himself as "transitioning",
risking his job, to support a female colleague who is a victim of
sexual discrimination, as he had been when he was not given the
job when he interviewed for it as a woman.
--Marina, Marina, Marina. The Marina fans, while happy to have
Karina Lombard on the show again, are tired of having their emotions
played with. This past week, we had Marina show up out of nowhere
to try to get to Jenny through a director being interviewed for
her film. It seems Marina is being pulled out sporadically to stir
the pot--and not necessarily add something more substantive than
occasional single episode appearances.
All in all, ratings must be sufficient enough to warrant another
season. Or perhaps Showtime just has so many other sidelines attached
to the show, such as jewelry, clothes, web sites, that the show
has simply become a host food. As long as fans put up their money,
the show will surely continue on.

Comments: I'm thrilled that there will be a Season 5. My wish is that IC will not write any more episodes, she needs to direct only. The shows written by some of the other writers are so much better than Ilene's stuff.

Comments: its great 4 u guys, me on the other hand I am gonna call showtime and cancel my sub. with season 5 coming and not knowing if it will b the last....there may or may not be any chance of B & T getting back together (seeing as MM is a series regular) and if they do get back together chances are and based on what we've seen so far....there won't me much input of them talking and processing everything....AND THAT JUST SUCKS!!! So guys continue to enjoy, you will find me still here in denial vile checking out the Tibette stories.

Comments: Host food indeed! Perhaps a new and better buffet will open soon and take us where the L word initially promised to... Season 4 is LOADS better than last year, but IMHO the show has lost the magic that drew me in and captivated my attention. I miss the writing that made seasons 1 and 2 so memorable. Additionally why bring in so many new characters, when the original "core" characters are all too often left hanging in limbo? I will trade any and all of the newest additions for the return of Carmen, Dana or even Dylan.

Comments: Whew!!! Well, that's a relief, now I can contentrate on something else!! The thought of not having Jennifer Beals to look forward to was depressing! LOL Now, if Ilene can just concentrate on the core characters of the show and quit bringing in so many sub characters, AND have Angela Robinson write and direct the entire fifth season, it will be a smash hit!!!

Comments: Eh, after reading the spoilers & seeing the screen cap's from the final episode, I don't know if this show deserves another season. Unless they do a complete 180 and redeem themselves by becoming more Tina-and TiBette-centric, it's going to be more mediocre dribble. At least it sounds like Cybill won't be returning, thank God; but Marlee and that whole flat, stale Jodie-Bette storyline obviously are, so just doesn't bode well at all!

Comments: I miss Carmen very much! Actually a lot of fans do! Especially Sharmen fans. Really hope Carmen will come back in season 5 as I believe many fans think Sharmen were meant to be. IC, please do anything to get Sarah back to this show! We want a Sharmen fix so so badly. Thanks!

Comments: I´m really in two minds here. Parts of S4 are indeed viewable, parts are downright hilarious, parts we could definitely do without. Hopefully IC will consider making S5 her opportunity to get back the good story, the believable story. To stop all that drama nonsense and just tell that very good story.

Comments: I am loving this season so much....it eases my mind that I will get to see another season! I would love to see TiBette together again but I am not opposed to a little happiness for Bette found elsewhere. I hope to see more of the new and improved Tina and hope that we finally get some backstory for her. The show seems to be back on track. There is more humor, nobody is dying, there is more group interaction. I also like the fact that season five was not announced as the final season....could we actually go more than 5 seasons!!!Viva The L Word!!!!!!

Comments: It's heartbreaking to read reports that EXCLUDE millions of fans' request to see Carmen (Sarah Shahi) again - with Shane! If people are not aware, a web-based petition has begun weeks ago to bring Carmen back to TLW. Their team-up must not be scrapped just like that because there are millions of fans waiting to see how they're gonna pick-up after the wedding that didn't happen.

Comments: We don't want much. HAH!! I'm with most of them. Jenny is just getting worse, and how did she end up being such a focus on the show? The Bette and Jodi thing has never worked for me, IC needs to get over it and get our girls back together. Can one couple just get together and stay there. I can do without Max also.

Comments: well i am going to give some contrasting opinions to what i have read so far. first of all i am very happy to hear the show has been picked up for another season! that we are all in agreement about! but i am def. one of those die hard marina fans and i understand there were huge problems on set w/ her and the other girls but wish there was a way IC could remedy the situation and get her back for good. as for Bette and Jodi, I like them together also. I still want to see Bette end up w/ Tina eventually but in the meantime I am glad she found someone else who can stand up to her. And I like Cybil, I think she is a great actress and brings believability to her character. Love tanya...paige, eh. I do agree there are to many new characters though. And don't even get me started on Jenny, I have always defended her but I'm done. I hate what they have done w/ her. Anyway all that aside, so glad there will be a new season to see where all the characters are going and have them to talk about:)

Comments: Im very thrilled to have Season 5 and hope for more episodes. Im fan of Bette with Jodi. No chance for Bette with Tina. Bette never have anyone stand up and challenge her. Thats Jodi make Bette realize. Tina is so passive and submissive and not challenge to Bette's. Bette will have a habit of controlling Tina. Forget it. JODI with Bette. Oh yeah

Comments: I'm excited to hear that there will be a second season. I have really taken to the Shane and Paige storyline. It's nice to see Shane in a "grown up" relationship. I have, however, gotten tired of the Jenny story and the whole "movie producting," but if it moves Tina along, eh. I also have to say that I was never a Tibetter from the start, but I have to admit, when I saw them hugging together on the stoop of thier old house, it made me really, really want them back. So here's to hoping that the show will continue on it's ever changing path and perhaps we will see that Bette and Tina reunion sometime!Oh and no more Kit sex scenes. Really???

Comments: This makes me happy. I do feel there are too many characters - can't even remember the names. But things look good for Bette and Tina. If they get together - it will be the final season - IC said so. I was kind of losing interest there. Oh,and if Shane got Shay back I think that would be great. That was an excellent storyline....she grew up!

Comments: So, so glad about season 5, But please let at least one of the relationships work out! Some of us like the idea of settled monogamy and it would be good to see our demographic represented in the characters.I find Max occupies too much time in the show and Jenny should soon be sent on her way too. They could both be "fringe dwellers" but it is the Bette, Alice, Shane and ( please please) Carmen characters that ring truest so we need to see more of them. What I loved about S1 and S2 was that there were stories about people's lives - not just events that we lurched between. From time to time everyone's lives can seem to be out of control but generally it is the companionship and interest in each other's lives that sustains our interest and friendship. I think straight people may be interested in L drama - it may feed their stereotypical view of the L community. Lets not give them the running! The L Word is ours ( thank you team), I love it and want to continue to relate to the characters and the lives they live.
