LOS ANGELES, June 20, 2006 – Rachel Shelley, as some of you may not know, is no stranger to the small nor the big screen. Shelley’s current gig is playing a beautiful, and until recently, filthy rich lesbian named Helena Peabody on Showtime Network’s series The L Word.
Rachel has stared in many other series and movies in her native Britain. Her next movie, slated to be released here in the US, is called Grey Matters where she plays a character named Julia Brady.
In the film the main character Gray is played by Heather Graham (Boogie Nights & Bowfinger) who realizes that she is gay and in love with her brother’s fiancée. The problem is that she does not realize that she’s gay until the night before the wedding. Her brother Sam, played by Tom Cavanaugh (Love Monkey & Ed) seems to be oblivious to his sister’s startling revelation as he marries his fiancée Charlie anyway. Charlie, played by Bridget Moynahan (I, Robot & Serendipity) realizes that Grey is in love with her and the plot thickens.
Grey Matters is also sprinkled with an outstanding supporting cast. Alan Cumming (The L Word & Cabaret) plays Antonio, Grey’s taxi driving friend who dresses in drag and goes out on the prowl to the lesbian bars with her where he gets hit on more than once.
The film also stars Molly Shannon (SNL & Serendipity) as Carrie who produces some of the films hilarity as she spreads gossip within Grey’s office. Other supporting stars are Sissy Spacek (Carrie) as Sarah, and there’s even a special appearance by Gloria Gaynor as herself.
Grey Matters is written, directed, and produced by first timer Sue Kramer. The film has been through a few test audience screenings, however, it is unclear when the film will be released though indications are that it will be sometime in early-mid 2007. |
