Provincetown Women's Week Report
October 2004
What a fabulous week!!!! We arrived on Thursday and started our long
weekend off with dinner with friends at Jackson's at the Flagship. This is a
gorgeous restaurant right on the water. They have a huge, beautiful
fireplace with great seating around the fire. The bar is actually a wooden
boat. After a long day and then the flight up from New Jersey, it was great
to sit at the bar with my partner and relax looking at the fire.
Friday was a busy day. After a leisurely morning at The Copper Fox Bed and
Breakfast, we saw two shows. First we saw Catie Curtis. If you don't know
Catie's music, check her out at www.catiecurtis.net.
Catie is a very smart songwriter, and every cd she releases is better than
the previous. Catie played at Vixen, one of three lesbian-centric bars in
Ptown. Catie had back up on a few songs by a woman named Steph McKenna playing
fiddle. They sounded great together.
We ran to The Lobster Pot for lobster bisque soup in between Catie Catie
and the second show, Maggie Cassella.
The Lobster Pot is THE place in Ptown for any fish, especially lobster!
This was the first time we had ever seen Maggie. We ran into her everywhere
in the summer when we were up for Carnival. We never did get to see her in
the summer, but she's a really friendly and funny person, so we made the
time to see her this trip, and we didn't regret it. I loved the news part of
her show, as I did the political commentary. Maggie used to be a lawyer, so
she's got a great take on some political and legal news. If you ever have
the chance, be sure to catch her.
On Friday, after a great dinner at Front Street, we caught Sherry Lynn at
Chasers, a lesbian bar. Sherry has band called Similar Features that covers
Melissa Etheridge. She was great!!! We thought her voice was actually better
than Melissa's.
Saturday brought THE L WORD DVD RELEASE party at The Pied, yet another
lesbian bar in Ptown. The party was very well attended! Women had lined up
as early as noon for the the 3 pm party in order to be one of the first 50
people, each of whom received an official The L Word t-shirt. There were
plenty of other giveaways, compliments of Lynette Molnar and GirlPower
events: The L Word mints, key chains, and more. We gave out lots of The L
Word Fan Site cards and talked to so many fans of the show.
Saturday night brought dinner at The Mews for us and six friends. Ok, listen
carefully. There is a server there who is a gorgeous version of CANDACE.
Yeah, yeah, I can hear you booing and yelling on the other side of your
screen, but put your Bette anger aside for a moment. Picture a very
attractive version of Candace-even more than Ion Overman. She's at The Mews.
I used to go to the Mews for the filet mignon with b?arnaise; now, I'll be
returning for other reasons. We were too chicken to give her a card for our
this site, so we gave it to our server (a guy) to give it to her. If you're
reading this, better-looking-than-Candace, drop us an email at
webmaster@L-word.com.
Sunday, we had lunch at Napi's and one more stroll up and down Commercial
Street before flying out on Cape Fear, I mean Cape Air (I think I stole that
joke from Kate Clinton) and their little NINE seater airplane. Guess who we
ran into in Boston? Maggie Cassella: "Hey, you coming to my show?" She
cracked us up yet again.
The Provincetown Women's Innkeepers did a fabulous job on the 2004 Women's
Week. Check out the 2004 schedule at

And start planning on joining us for 2005. If you run into
better-looking-than-Candace, tell her she's got friends at The L Word Fan
Site.
