Accompanying her was Daniela Sea, whom fans should expect to become a breakout star during season three. Afterward, both women graciously sat with fans of the show and answered their questions.
Here's what we talked about over the noise:
So season one of "The L Word" really felt like a sea change in the lesbian community. The immediate influence and popularity of your show was an unprecedented cultural phenomenon in the lesbian community. Now that you have season two under your belt, how does it feel? Has the ante been upped?
Mostly I'm incredibly gratified. I'm really, really thrilled that the show is taking part in a cultural phenomenon. In some ways we're leading it, and in some ways we're reflecting it, but we don't have time to stop and think about it, because we have to do the work to keep putting the show out and doing our best to stay relevant.
How do you feel like you're reflecting it?
I think the reason the show happened at the moment it did was because the culture was ready for us. The culture led the way, we jumped on and, as pop culture does, it takes the lead and reflects it. It does both of those things at once.
Being the focus of that much attention when the show started, was there any praise or criticism that you really took to heart?
I can't afford to take it to heart -- the praise or the criticism. I take it in, it gets assimilated, but insofar as it affects the work we do, it's definitely a little bit intense. You have to be sort of impervious to it in order to go on doing what you do, whether it's really laudatory or they're really ripping you to shreds. You have to keep doing your work. All we want to do is tell the best stories we can. We want to do well, and we're trying our best to put out a really good, entertaining show. We just need to find our path and stay on it.
I just heard about a spoof of "The L Word" that's playing in the LGBT Film Festival called "The D Word." Do you know anything about it?
I don't know that much about it, but I did hear about it a while ago. I have a writer on my staff this year who was involved in it. I haven't talked to her about it. I don't want to know how she was making fun of us.
