  L-Word.com And L2

L-word.com regretfully announces that its working relationship with Starfury, organizer of last year's "The L Event" and the upcoming "L2" has been terminated. L-word.com was given exclusive access to last year's events, bringing you interviews with Laurel Holloman, Rachel Shelley, and Meredith McGeachie. Despite assurances of exclusive coverage, the Laurel Holloman and Rachel Shelley interviews later turned up at other The L Word-themed fan sites.

L-word.com again negotiated with Starfury for exclusive coverage of this year's "L2" event, agreeing to provide marketing support for the event as well as co-sponsorship of a fan fiction event during "L2". L-word.com worked for several weeks to obtain Starfury's approval of press releases and finalize the fan fiction event, with zero response from the convention organizer. When L-word.com finally asked for Starfury's cooperation in the marketing scheme and assurances of exclusive coverage, Starfury terminated its relationship with L-word.com.

As a result of Starfury's failure to live up to its end of the bargain, L-word.com has removed all promotional content from the site, including message board threads. No further posts regarding the convention will be permitted, and all questions about the event should be submitted directly to the convention organizer.

Comments: I hate to say it but this doesn't surprise me. Afterall, this is the same man who after last years convention had absolutely NOTHING nice to say about lesbians. I for one will not be giving him one more dime of my money.

Comments: Well Seahurst that is a slight exageragtion. Starfury did not criticize ALL lesbians, they criticised a few who caused trouble at L1. Your eagerness to back up the boss is commendable. Of course as one of this sites "officials" I would expect you to jump to support the site owner. I'll await the others as they will all come here to line up behind the boss. Yet again L-word.com falls out with someone......what a surprise!! I doubt Starfury will notice this sites lack of support anyway, joleslie is active on many other sites I am sure interested people will find her and get her updates

Comments: if the comments seahurst are refering to are the 'angry lesbian' comments this was more about the attendee's being angry rather than lesbians. the organiser and staff at the previous con had to endure alot of hostility from certain attendee's but this was no way because they were lesbians, just nasty people ... as for the rest of it .. im sorry this has happened :-(

Comments: Wow I find is so sad the eagerness to jump down Seahurst's throat. I doubt that she has ever been paid from the site if that's what the reference is too but i believe that Starfury as made more than one derrogatory remark towards lesbians and this was well before the convention last year. It strikes me that Uta has her own axe to grind.

Comments: Jwet, I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, there are some who seem to exist at this site only to criticize and attempt to make everyone an employee of the site. Not that being an employee of the site should be basis for being discredited, mind you. The reality that these people can't seem to grasp is that with the exception of the programmer and site designer, no one is paid for their "work" here. And while I can understand people levying attacks at me (being that I'm the site's big bad lawyer), there's no basis for attacking Seahurst...she is a 2-time award winning author who has occasionally contributed articles to the main page. She is not one of the site's "officials", nor does she deserve to be blamed for the site's policies that seem to offend the commenter upstream. People who don't like the site's policies should remember that they're not being held hostage here...go find another site if you don't like the way this one is run, and let the other 47,000 of us enjoy it here!

Comments: (Vampire - a corpse supposed to leave its grave at night to drink the blood of the living.) Hmm...how appropriate. I have to laugh at Uta Vampire’s response. How simple minded of you to, one - think that you were insulting me by saying I support the opinions of the site’s owner, when in actuality I am proud to support her decision on this topic. And, two - by believing that all you have to do is say I am sucking up to the boss and people will magically dismiss the owner’s decision, as well as my comments as having no validity. I clearly put much more faith in the members of this site than you do. I will remind you of many comments I made on the discussion board after I attended last years convention, and that my comments here are an accurate reflection of what I said back then. But, I know that you know that. This is just a weary exercise on your part to stir up trouble. But, please don’t think that you can distract people from the truth by throwing out empty insults. (You sound a lot like a certain ‘baby monkey’ I know when you do that.) It may work for a spit second in time, but the truth will always separate itself and make its way to the top. Oh, and thank you to JWET and Steph for your words of support. Gee, does this mean that I am now the boss and you are sucking up to me? LOL And, one last comment. My opinion about the man who runs Starfury is not the same as my opinion of the many volunteers who gave their time at the last convention. The volunteers were very nice.

Comments: I have been a strong supporter of this site for a long time. In fact, I check it almost daily and I really enjoy the fan fics. They are great and the writers are awesome! However, the fact that this site has ended ties with Starfury makes me wonder a little bit. My g/f and I are going to the conference and we're looking forward to it. But now I have my reservations on what it will turn out to be like. If it is great, I wonder why this site feels so strongly against anything being published. If it is not, then I will at least see London and enjoy the time together with my girl. So I don't think that I will lose out either way. Lately I have seen many of the new postings being deleted and the administrators being stricter than before. I wonder why that is as well. Why can't we all get along and be able to voice our opinions freely. Could an administrator answer the question about postings being deleted? I know some have similar treads already, but it is not the case all the time. Thanks for all the great work you do though! I really appreciate it!

Comments: hss0310, please note the event is going ahead just as it always was. I know nothing about what's happened, and I don't wish to speculate, but I can categorically state that this is just that L-Word.com and Starfury no longer have a working relationship. It does not affect the event. The event will still go on just as it always would have. All it means is that L-Word.com will not allow the event to be talked about on their website.Jo

Comments: hss0310...the site feels strongly about nothing being published because we provided thousands of dollars of now FREE advertising to promote the event based on Starfury's promise to provide us with exclusive press access to the event. Now that the event has been well-promoted and discussed at the site, Starfury decided to terminate the agreement, essentially meaning that we've gotten nothing in exchange for all the promotion. The decision was made to prohibit further convention promotion (and thus discussion) because it simply isn't fair to expect the site to continue providing something for nothing. With regard to deletion of posts, I can assure you that NO posts are deleted from the message boards unless they are duplicates, OR the deletion is requested by the parties involved. Posts are not simply, randomly deleted, nor are they deleted for any personal reasons such as dislike of the poster. We have gotten stricter in recent months, and that is because it is necessary to enforce the rules as the site grows. With over 47,000 members, it is important to make everything as easy to find as possible, and also important to make this a safe environment for everyone who chooses to participate.

Comments: It was Sean's decision to break the contract. We've already given Starfury *thousands of dollars of free advertising* before he broke the contract. We simply cannot justify the expenditure of more site resources to provide free advertising for a convention organizer that doesn't follow through on his end of the agreement.

Comments: Sean's always been a bit of a prat, but lets face it, he is one of the few people to get off his arse and organise these sort of events. The Starfury events have always been good (I'm a veteran of the Xena cons he used to organise) and the fun is seeing the guest and meeting others. Fans who can get to the con should go for it - they are always fun, but I don't blame the site for not promoting the event. Sean's ego is considerable bigger than his height!!

Comments: Sorry for the above, I didn't think mentioning that it's in a different location was promotion. Anyway, the main point of my post was to point out that Alexandra has cancelled the Manchester convention (just so no one books under false pretenses.) Jo
