The L Word ladies – Up-close and Personal:
Leisha Hailey
By B&TF
WARNING: contains minor spoilers for season 4
They captured your attention on the TV screen. They made you laugh,
they made you cry and, occasionally, they made you scream at your
TV. But whatever emotions the ladies of The L Word evoked
in you, they are the ones who keep you coming back every Sunday
night when the show airs on Showtime and inspire you to travel all
over the world to attend different fan and signing events.
My latest travel adventure brought me up-close and personal with
five amazing and delightful women that one way or another evoked
some strongest and often unexpected emotions in me. It made me realize
that the cast members love The L Word as much as we do
and because of that I, personally, would like for this show to go
on forever, even if sometimes I don’t like where some storylines
are going.
This show still remains one of the kind and all of the cast members
are very special to their fans. So, without further ado let me introduce
the ladies of The L Word whom I recently met, talked to
and learn a lot from. They are: charming and hilarious Leisha Hailey,
gorgeous and adorable Laurel Holloman, shy and mischievous Mia Kirshner,
lovely and big-hearted Kate Moennig, and beautiful and talented
Guinevere Turner.

Leisha Hailey
Leisha is funny and I think she is the loveliest and the
friendliest person. I didn’t have much of an interaction
with her, but from the little I saw and heard, Leisha is amazing.
So what’s in the future for Leisha and Alice?
Music
If Leisha would sing karaoke, she would choose Björk,
even though she thinks she would sound terrible. Sleater-Kinney
was her and Kate’s favorite group on the show, and Leisha
would like to see Liz Phair on a show as well.

Leisha began her career as an actress and the music came later.
She self taught herself to play the guitar and now she wishes that
she went to a music school. Leisha is also thinking about getting
her band back together.
On the Set
Leisha was described by her cast members as beautiful, funny, and
adorable. She likes to work with the original cast, and when they
are filming together, they can’t stop laughing--but Mia the
one who gets in trouble for that.
She would like to play a superwoman but without a special costume
because who wants to cover her body after she worked so hard on
it--she would rather show it off. Oh, and she likes to sleep in
her little underwear but she wouldn’t say more.
If Leisha could choose to play another character on the show she
would play Carmen just to have her ass.
Recently there was a pillow fight video flowing around that showed
several of the cast members playing around with each other. Leisha
said that she and her cast mates had a blast making a pillow fight
video. Kate Moennig wasn’t on it. She was edited in later
because she was in New York, but Leisha enjoyed making the video
because they had to hit the each other.
Ironically, all the cast members’ reaction to Season 3 was
the same as most of the fans had: disappointment and confusion.
They even came up with the explanations scenes about everything
that that was unexplained and called it OC: Off Camera.
Alice
As far as Alice…Leisha likes Alice to be funny and not dramatic.
It was hard to play crazy Alice, but she tried to make it funny
to reduce the drama. Laurel was helping her a lot with those scenes,
especially to know how to react to certain pills that Alice was
taking.
It’s hard for Leisha to hate anything about her character
because the characters became part of them, but if she had to change
something about Alice it would be to make her less of a gossip.
To do the show is very important to her because it gives visibility
in the community. Even to see two lesbians walking on a show is
exciting.

Erin Daniels
Leisha misses Erin Daniels a lot because she was her favorite
scene partner. Episode 310 was the hardest to shoot and the
worst day of filming. This year was a great year for them,
but without Erin it was horrible; they talked about her every
day.
During Season 1, even the writers didn’t know that
Alice and Dana will fall in love. This was the coolest storyline,
according to Leisha, because it happens a lot in real life,
and it happened to Leisha as well when she fell in love with
her best friend. Her advice on the situation like that was,
“Tell your friend, why not, take a risk.”

Season 4 and Beyond
Leisha was excited to work with Cybill Shepherd who is really funny,
has a dry sense of humor, and sings opera during breaks. Their characters
will have a fling when Phyllis (Cybill’s character), a married
women with children, suddenly gets confused about her sexuality.
Eventually, she will rock Alice’s world.
In 30 years, Leisha sees Alice living with a new girlfriend, Dana,
who nobody knows and a cat, Mr. Piddles. Or she sees Alice living
with Bette and Tina on a farm in Vermont, selling their vegetables.
Ultimately, Leisha wants Alice to be happy, to have what Bette and
Tina have, which is true love.
