GLAAD To Honor Jennifer Beals, Alec Mapa, PlanetOut at 16th Annual Media Awards

(Los Angeles, CA) - The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) announced this week that it will honor Jennifer Beals and Alec Mapa at the 16th Annual GLAAD Media Awards Presented by ABSOLUT VODKA in San Francisco on June 11 in the Festival Pavilion at Fort Mason Center.

At its third and final GLAAD Media Awards event, GLAAD will honor critically acclaimed actress Jennifer Beals (Golden Globe nominee for Flashdance and star of Showtime's The L Word) with the Golden Gate Award. The Golden Gate Award is given to members of the entertainment and media industries who have made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for LGBT people. Past Golden Gate Award recipients include Megan Mullally, Stockard Channing, Brooke Shields, and Margaret Cho.

GLAAD will also honor actor and San Francisco native Alec Mapa (star of UPN's Half & Half) with the Davidson/Valentini Award. The Davidson/Valentini Award is named in memory of Craig Davidson, GLAAD's first executive director, and his partner Michael Valentini. It is presented in San Francisco to an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender individual who has made a significant difference in promoting equal rights for our community. Past Golden Gate Award recipients include Clive Barker, B.D. Wong, and Sandra Bernhard.
