FAN FIC WRITERS’ CONVENTION IN SAN FRANCISCO

by BetteandTinaForever

First, let me introduce myself properly. I’m BetteAndTinaForever or B&TF, otherwise known as a ‘crazyrussianstalker.’ My more intimate circle of friends call me Hot Stuff wait, did I just said it out loud? Well, it’s more wishful thinking on my part, to be called that.

Anyway, enough about me! Let’s talk about this little writers and readers get together that we had one glorious weekend in San Francisco, California. I think I had one of the easiest flights because it was non-stop and sorry, I’m back into “Me, Myself and I” mode. Did I mentioned before that I talk a lot, and mostly about myself, and that’s why I don’t have any friends left? I met new and wonderful friends last weekend in San Francisco, but I’m afraid that after spending two days with the egomaniac and a chatterbox that I am, I think I lost them already.

Okay, I feel that I’m losing this audience as well, so if you’re bored already just skip this whole part and go straight to the end.

Some of us, avid fan fic enthusiasts and fearless travelers arrived a day early. After settling  into our respectful, and in some cases, respected hotels, we met at The Café in the evening, mainly because it was the birthday of one of the wonderful readers on this site, albeez. She has been MIA lately for some time due to the reasons I can’t disclose right now (I think Love has something to do with it, among other things) but is still a great supporter of this board.

The night was wonderful. Not only did I get to eat twice in the same restaurant, and was even recognized, but I also have met some new friends who I only knew virtually before: vfullart and fergz1, their partners and bntfan. Then the evening was brightened up even more with the arrival of JWet, her partner, albeez, blueSF and giasony. I can feel that some of you are getting jealous already by missing out on such a great party wait until you read about Friday.

Nothing much happened on Thursday night, but the passion for the L Word and fan fic was shared and a new friendship was born.

The next day most of us (minus albeez, blueSF and giasony, plus Down Low) went on a sight seeing tour. We walked a lot through Chinatown and Fisherman’s Wharf. We chatted with some stinky seals at Pier 39, and finally end up at Ghirardelli Square, where we ate the most delicious ice-cream and met up with (drum rolls please ) Seahurst. What a day!!!! I can sense more jealousy coming from the readers are there still any readers?

Finally, we all pampered ourselves, put on our best clothes and got together at The Café to meet and greet, to chat and to share, to drink and to dance, or do whatever our hearts desired. More people arrived, among the ones that I’ve already mentioned there were also funnyone, Madcapper, nettababy and her sister, and lowerbottom. Our little but cozy group attracted some other visitors of The Café and the name tags that we wore to identify ourselves became quite a fashion item. Suddenly, everyone wanted to have them, even the lovely and friendly bartender.

What more can I say about that night? It was fun. I think everyone lost their voices in the morning because we had to speak very loud to be heard over the music, but the time spent in talking and mingling with someone who shares your addiction and your love for the show and the writing was priceless and precious. And it wasn’t over by any means the next day.

More sightseeing, more walking, drinking tea in the Japanese tea gardens, meeting shakennotstirred (another legend on this fanfic site) and much more that can only be described as the memorable trip, that I’m sure no one would easily forget. For the detailed, minute-by-minute account of all the true adventures of fan fic writers, please PM me, and I’ll see what I can do to accommodate such a peculiar curiosity.

I hope that the next fan fic writers convention will bring more people to join together to talk about the show we all love to hate and about the stories we all love to read. To meet new friends and make everlasting memories. I know I’ll be there and I’ll try to talk less and listen more, I promise.

THE END

PS. For those who skipped the story and came straight here: there’s nothing interesting in here, just one word THE END (or is it two words? Does The considered as a word?) Anyway, as I said, nothing interesting in here so you might as well go back to the beginning and read the story about fan fic writers’ convention in San Francisco.

Saturday was also beautiful! The sun was shining again, not a drop of rain in sight! I enjoyed a great breakfast with B&TF, vfullart and her partner, and bntfan. Then, we jumped into a taxi...that’s right, we found one, but only after vfullart used her trusty cell phone to call a taxi company after we realized we were walking, AGAIN! I am afraid to say that at this point, while we were standing on top of yet another hill, these women got to know the real me...yeah, I feel sorry for them too! LOL

Anyway, our taxi whipped us off to Golden Gate Park, where we met up with JWET and her partner, fergz1 and her partner, and down low. And, wouldn’t you know it, as we were getting ready to leave we ran into the same two women from The Café, who worked on The L Word! What a small world! They were playing tourists just as we were. What fun to be able to talk with them again! We then went off to have lunch, and they continued with their explorations. Yep, saying it again...ggggorgeous!!! (Must visit Brazil!)

Now on to lunch! This was one of my favorite parts, not only because it was a large group of us (we were joined by albeez, BlueSF, and giasony), but because we were meeting up with one of my absolute favorite fan fiction writers... Shakennotstirred. Her story The Chase, as well as Umbrella are two of my all time favorites. Sitting next to this very talented woman, and chatting about fan fiction and the show, both during lunch and after, as we were walking down The Height, was truly a gift to me...although, now that I think about it, I may have monopolized her time. And, if I did, I hope the rest of the group will forgive me...(sheepishly) I just love the way she tells a story.

It was hard saying good bye to all these wonderful women... even though we had only known each other for 24 hours, I felt a true connection with each one. And now that I have met them, the next time I read one of their stories, or read a comment they have left, it will have just a little more meaning, because I will be able to call up my wonderful memories from that weekend.

Thank you JWET, and everyone else involved with organizing this weekend. It was a blast...it was a treat... was like having our own little gay pride weekend, fan fiction style!! See you all at the next one!!

Comments: You're so right about it being loud, BTF, and about the way I sounded the next morning. It was a gas. Too short for me, I didn't get to hang out with you all for more than Friday night. Damn school. Well, if ever one of these things come about again and I can put together the time and $, you know I'll be there. Thanks, Jwet.
