  THANK YOU, ERIN DANIELS!

Thank you, Erin Daniels!

L-word.com would like to thank Erin Daniels for three seasons of bringing to live one of our favorite characters, Dana Fairbanks. Some of our favorite L word moments were Dana's: the mission to the restaurant with the whole gang to check out Lara...coming out to her parents...the consummation of her relationship with Alice...her love of Mr. Piddles.

Erin was one of the great "unknowns" when the show premiered. Jennifer Beals and Pam Griere werethe marquee names, and many were familiar with Laurel Holloman from The Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love. Leisha Hailey was known from The Murmurs--and also kd lang. Kate Moenning had a following from Young Americans, but Erin was a bit of an enigma, as was Dana. In the pilot episode, Dana was sharp tongued but not-too-bright. As the season progressed, Erin took her from bitchy to completely lovable and one of the favorite characters on the show.Dana went froma "closet case" who hadonly been with two women to an out, proud, and vibrant character who brought so much humor to the show.

Dana's relationships were some of the most loved. Her relationship with Lara in Season 1 had fans begging for the return of Lara after Dana lost her to her own homophobia. Then, in Season 2, the development of the Alice and Dana relationship was the highlight for many. Dana also had one of the least popular relationships on the show--with Tonya. But it was the stellar acting of Erin Daniel and Meredith McGeachie and their impeccabletiming that portrayed the mismatch so perfectly to everyone but the characters themselves, until the very end of their relationship.

Erin and Dana will both be very sorely missed by fans of the L word. We at L-word.com would like to thank Erin Daniels for three seasons of one of our all time favorite characters. Best of luck to you, Erin. We'll also be watching out for you wherever you may show up next on our screen.

I will forever miss Erin playing Dana. It breaks my heart just thinking about her absence. I hope she is successful with her new career opportunities, but in my eyes I don't think anything will compare to her portrayal of Dana :( If only she could have stayed on till the end.

Comments: The show is ruined for me. In three short seasons the characters have been turned from smart, georgeous, funny women to boring, cheating, rediculously stupid characatures. I won't be buying anymore merchandise and I will cancel my subscription to showtime, oh after Huff I guess. I understand a show can't be everything I want it to be but I don't need to watch something that I used to crowd around the TV set with friends to watch turned into this drek. It's really too bad. I loved this show and I absolutley ADORE Jennifer Beals but I hate even more what the writers have done with her character. Not even QAF made me want to turn the channel as much as Season 3 has.

Comments: In this day and age, television is not a necessary medium for crusades or awareness, especially a program like The L Word that has already brought awareness and assisted in opening the minds of the narrow-minded toward the gay/bisexual/transgender communities of the world. However, over the last season, the drastic changes made by Ilene Chaiken and her writing staff have begun to shed a negative light upon the community that has championed the show from the very beginning with the first episode. One, the character of Max, a woman transitioning to being a man, is portrayed in an extremely harsh light by having Max exhibit amounts of violence and abuse toward the character of Jenny, a bisexual woman who is supporting Max through their transition. Two, the case of the death of Dana Fairbanks, a professional athlete, who never so much as was shown being ill on the show and suddenly, dies of breast cancer, Rather than use the character of Dana as a positive role model or spokesperson for Breast Cancer Awareness and to give hope to women around the world that are suffering from breast cancer, they quickly kill her off after a drop in breast cancer. There were women watching that are currently suffering from breast cancer and not only were they offended, but they felt that it offered no hope for their condition. It was irresponsible, unrealistic, and poorly handled. No, we don't expect Erin Daniels to be able to be brought back to the show (short of it all being a dream), but we would like to have our opinions heard by Ilene Chaiken. It is the ratings that ensure The L Word will be picked up for another season. It's the fans who keep the show going and got it picked up for a fourth season. Therefore, we have a right to speak our minds about the dramatic decline in the quality of the show and particularly, the ridiculous manner in which the Dana character was mishandled. Shame on you, Ilene Chaiken, for claiming to want to bring a positive awareness to breast cancer and doing the exact opposite.http://www.petitiononline.com/ripdana/petition.html

Comments: This show means so much to me and to now have one of the most lovable characters die from such a horrible disease feels like friend of my own has died. I’ll admit I wasn’t really into Dana’s character until around the middle of the 1st season. Erin did such a wonderful job bringing Dana to life and giving her so much depth. Her comedic performance is some of the best I’ve ever seen. Her facial expressions alone had me rolling. To be a relatively unknown actress she has such a wonderful talent that she’s right up there with some the big names in acting. Good luck Erin in your future projects. We all will miss you dearly.

Comments: It's truly sad to see Erin Daniels' character Dana being eliminated from the L-Word. She provided such great comic relief and beautiful naivete in the 1st season after her very public breakup with Lara. All driving by her insecurities which she conquer in Season 2. Who could forget the Dana dance on board the yatch in Season 1 Eps. 8. Fanatastic. Dana and Alice created such fun for the show... who will balance Alice's craziness and keep her gossip to a minimum now? I wish Erin Daniels good luck in her career and hope that the L-Word won't eliminate any of the remaining original cast in Season 4.

Comments: As all good things, they must come to an end. This is true, but if life imitates art and the other way around, why not make it so. Not evey strong, young and not to mention atheletic women die of this, it's such a shame that for us to care so deeply about an issue involving one of our favorite cast members, you have to kill them.I like many others am highly upset at these turn of events. It will be hard to remain a faithful fan after this and I'm not sure if I can. Showtime sucks anyways ever since QAF ended, this was the only thing that had me as a subsciber.I heard it before, it's only a show, only t.v., but it is a source of info and entertainment. I wasn't entertained with this whatsoever and the info I recieved was if ya get cancer, don't get the chemo...hmm?On another note, vented finished.BEST WISHES MS. DANIELS!!!You are a truly talented actress and when all the post are finished mentioning you, I'm sure you can print them and wall paper your entire house. Cheers!!!Peace

Comments: I'm trying to find a reason for continuing to watch the L-Word. I've already answered the question of why I keep forgetting to turn it on "on time" each week. If the tone of writing is any reflection of what has been going on in Ilene Chaiken's life this year, then I am very sad for her, as this year has been a very depressing year for the L-Word. Let's see, how many happy couples are there?..one...and they're straight. OK..a main character died, and everyone else is pretty much miserable. Can't wait to tune in for the cliffhanger huh?

Comments: The killing of Dana was such a poor choice for this show. It was essentially for shock value. It wasn’t brave or enlightening. If they really wanted to empower women and give us a sense of what breast cancer can do, it would be to show Dana's personal transformation through fighting for her life, seeking alternative therapies and surviving into thriving. All this did was make people think breast cancer equals fast death, and with friends who have little or no time for you while you're dying. The worst I'm afraid is yet to come. Since Ilene is so proud of her choice, she's going to now fully disgrace Dana's death by having all the rest of the mostly shallow characters (except Shane, Bette and Alice) mourn for 5 minutes and then go back to their sex lives and petty stupidities (aka ridiculous storylines) ... They lose a fun, delicious, sensitive actress and gain absolutely NOTHING. No one learned anything from this. We all know about breast cancer. We all know about loss ... who needed this? Lost my appetite for trusting this show again ...Also, Erin Daniels indeed seemed deeply heartbroken in that post-show segment, that she essentially was given walking papers and thus lost her family of cast and crew as they all go into the 4th season with their jobs. How awful. That segment was supposed to comfort us???? COME ON! This whole thing was pretty negative for women’s healing and our spiritual journeys. The character of Dana went through nothing. She was sad and angry and died that way. They could have explored her taste of death and the shifts in her consciousness and relationships. That would have taken guts to write a storyline like that. I am anticipating a nauseating post-death bunch of shallow episodes, pretentiously attempting to be deep. And Alice? So, the message is, we eventually and finally get over our breakups when the other person dies? Is that the intent for Alice's transformation? Give me a break. The choice to have Dana die took NO guts. Having her live and go thru that "rebirth" would have been the real challenge for the writers. They took the easy way out. And it’s our loss, the cast and crew’s personal loss and the show’s complete loss. The idea of watching shallow Helena chase an extortionist (let me guess, Alex really did love her and oh god, how she regrets, how she regrets) … the idea of continuing to watch a transgendered character be angry, vindictive and miserable is so appealing … and Jenny’s uselessness and total non-growth … and Bette’s character diminishing the value and grace and healing of meditation … and Kit and Angus – GET THEM OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comments: When I first watched the show, I was immediately drawn to the character of Dana. Erin Daniels was a bit of a revelation to me--I needed to know where she came from, what other stuff she'd done--who was she? It's very rare that a TV actress can do that to me. I think Alyson Hannigan was the last actress to grab my attention like that. When Dana and Alice hooked up, it was one of the best plots going on the show. What happens when best friends hook up? Those two played it so hilariously, so brilliantly, and I'm still angry that we never got a full resolution regarding their breakup. The "Random Act" at the beginning of the show was a lame way to do it. Those two deserved better.Erin, the show isn't going to be the same without you. You were one of the reasons I watched, and sadly, there are very few reasons for me to tune in anymore.

I think all of us have had many laughs and shed some tears with this character. Erin's chemistry with all the cast and especially Leisha was priceless. What in the hell was Chaiken thinking when she offed one of the most beloved characters on the show. I am like Kate.....I'M PISSED. She wanted us to embrace these characters and when we do, she yanks a major player away from us. She could have gotten her story across without having Dana die. I, like everyone else, know that this is just a TV show, but it sounds pretty shitty the way that she got rid of Erin. It is also shit way to treat the fans of the show.

Comments: I'm really sad (to be honest, I cried for Dana a lot last night after the show is over). I can't find any other reason why I should watch the L Word. At first, I thought Bette and Tina was the only reason why I watch the show, but the truth is the presence of all the key members from Season 1 is what really keeps me watching. Now that Erin leaved, I don't know if the L Word is going to be the same anymore. I'm really disappointed, and perhaps, I might as well unsubscribe showtime if Bette and Tina are not back together). Comments: From the very first episode to now Dana has always been by far my favorite character. Dana went from being unsure of herself to a out and proud lesbian and then to a breast cancer patient who ultimately died... does anyone see a problem here?? All the changes that we've seen Dana go through have in the past two seasons been positive and then in third season she is diagnosed with breast cancer and then soon after dies. I don't know what the producers were thinking when coming up with this storyline... they could've at least left the door open for Erin if she decided to return but no.. she has to die and leave her fans sad and shocked. I don't know how the ratings for season four will be without Erin Daniels.. she brought life to the show and the only reason that i will continue to watch the show is because Alice is another one of my favorite characters... In.. "Lead Follow Or Get Out Of The Way" in the part where Dana had a fever on the couch.. the producers obviously thought it was more important to watch tina have sex with a guy... i mean come on Dana could've at least been featured more... I am so sad to see her go and have never had such an emotional attachment to a character who no longer will grace my tv every sunday :(

Comments: "Brokenquill" You are so right on! I didn't know what to think about them killing Dana off. First off, all I could think of is how at the end of the show they talked about how many women in this world each year "GET" breast cancer. I know alot of women that watch the L-word and thought, oh this is good to show how it is like to find out you have breast cancer and thought it would be a good thing. Help make more woman go and be check every year. But the way they ended it was nothing but crazy! There are A LOT of woman that live a long life that has had breast cancer. All I could think of when it was over, is OMG how are all these woman that are watching this that has been told they have breast cancer going to take it or deal with this show now. I just wanted to cry not for what they are doing to Dana (Erin) but the people that love and watch this show every Sunday and has made the L-word what it is today. I think if they really needed to do that then why not use Jenny! Season 2 and all that crazy crap with Jenny made me want to stop watching the show. Now that was some F*cked-up writing on LC behalf I think. Dana was one of the strong people on the show. LC is making it look like All lesbians are all screwed up and can't make a relationship work. BS I say to that! I have alot of lesbian friends that have been together for over 25 years and still doing great. Ya maybe she is right about Tina in some ways. I to have known alot of woman that date men only to hide how and who they really are only to fall in love with a woman and realize that it is right for them. Then have to deal with people and family only to hide once more and go back to men. But later in life they are so un-happy and end up back in a woman arm. No being gay is hard but it can and is a great thing for most people these day and getting easyer and better. So Don't ruin it for use Lesbian and show that all gay people are all screwed up LC!

The chemistry between Alice and her was just awesome. I really found myself hoping that Dana would overcome the homophobia she had based on the fact that she was in the public eye as a tennis player and eventually she did. That took guts on her part. Comments: I have been a loyal fan of the L Word since the start. I have watched these women grow into their characters. The chemistry they all share is like nothing i've ever seen. When Dana died, I felt like I lost a friend.I've read over some of the other posts on this site, and some people seem angry. But I know why they (the writers and directors) chose the path they did. Like us in the real world.. these people, these characters will have to suffer. That's life. People you love will die, relationships will crumble. Breast cancer is such a hugely real thing. And women all over the world, like Dana will be dealt the unlucky hand. I can only keep reminding myself that Dana isn't real. And Erin Daniels is just fine. Props to her for such a beautiful performance over these past few years. And props to the people behind the scenes, for keeping things real.

Comments: Like some others have said, I identified a lot with Dana, particularly S1 Dana because I'm so closeted at home it's not even funny. Plus where Dana has had very little experience I have had none in that realm. I'll always remember the humorous times with Dana, Alice and Shane (butt-waxing, female ejaculation, etc.). Oh and of course ep. 205 with Dana and Alice. They were one of the funniest couples I've ever seen. That relationship made S2 easier to deal with. I can understand why Dana would make a good candidate for the breast cancer s/l, but that doesn't mean I have to like losing a funny character. I just can't believe Dana passed that quickly. It was just last week's episode that she was having fun with Alice at Max's party and coming to terms with her illness. At any rate, I hope all future roads lead to success for Erin.

Comments: I am not mad about Dana’s death – just terribly sad. To reiterate the thoughts of others, I saw a piece of myself in Dana and appreciate the character Erin created. We were all in love with you in one way or another. As a sister, as a friend, as a lover… As Dana’s time neared (because the final scene was foreshadowed brilliantly) I prayed it was another character – harder than I have ever prayed in my life. Even now I am stunned that I am this taken aback by the death of a fictional character. I am not out and have used this show as a support network. My days are better because I experienced life as a lesbian through Dana and the other characters. To those who created this story line – I actually feel pain. I realize this was not your goal, but let the pain of your viewers be a testament to a revitalization of the show and strong storylines... even if they hurt.Dana will be missed. Thank you for taking a career chance on this show. We love you.

Comments: Very well put "brokenquill" and "lillyyellow" however, unlike some of the comments on here, I do understand Max's storyline. Anyone who has known someone taking steroids or pumping testosterone in their veins know's that all her/his mood swings and anger are all in the needle. Also the message that it doesn't matter what body you have but more so what lives inside. However I do agree with the comments about Dana's character dying. A tremendous amount of women have fought and survived breast cancer, especially someone as healthy as Dana before the diagnosis. It would have been a much better storyline and it still could have been very realistic. Now the Tina and Bette storyline; after all the shit Tina put Bette through to get back together just to tell her she wants dick again. Come on now... Tina's character is who should've died... Dana and Bette are the main reasons I watched the show, oh and Alice 'cause she always had something funny to say, but with Dana gone and Bette not far behind her (mentally at least) there's really no reason to tune in. Now without Dana to play off of what will Alice do? As much as I would like it to all just be someone's nightmare; that would be way too "soap opera". In a way it's becoming just that a lesbian soap opera, and that's not how it started out. Most lesbians out there can relate to at least one of the characters, and they know someone in their own circle of friends who relate to the others. It seems now that the writers are getting lazy or uninterested..... Either way killing off Dana Fairbanks was one of the poorest decisions in television history. The character as well as the actress will be trully missed.... Hope to see Erin Daniels in something else soon...

The story line between Dana and Alice should of shown that friends can be lovers and live a very happy life together!I feel that you should of killed of some of the other dead wood charactors, moria (max) it was very bad taste to have a story line involving a sex change, when when of the most important and most liked charactor was going through a very sad and life threatening time.Sorry Daniela you can`t act! Also Jenny should of gone a long time aga, she has brought nothing to this show! Erin has made me feel alive again, and it was such a joy watching her.She was truly one of a kind, and i don`t think the show will be the same again without her! I won`t forget your smiling face Erin, and i wish you every succuss and happiness to you for the future! XX

Comments: Thank you Thank you Thank you brokenquill! You've saved me a rant. Please read the article in the NYTimes today about how death to major characters is all the rage in hollywood right now. Mmm, can you say ratings any louder! Good grief! Congratulations to the Producers and writing team for following the trend instead of exploring intelligent lesbian themes. I know its a "drama" but come on! What happened to the fabulous and intelligent story lines of the first season? And what happened to Gwen Turner?? Her scripts brought lightness and humour to the show that our community needs - badly. Must we see victimization and death again and again in lesbian dramas! Miserable.

I personally think the Dana/Alice relationship was the best in the show as the 2 actors have such great chemistry, its going to be a huge loss to the show. All I can say is good luck Erin, you know the L word fans will be behind you on all your new projects because your great (and really hot!)Thank you for playing this part so well.

Comments: Wow, im extremely disappointed. Out of all the characters, they choose Dana... Wow is all i have to say. Such a personality on screen, her character was felt by all. Yes, thank you for the memories but that just aint good enough. The moment a main character is killed off, there goes the show... Only chance of The L Word surviving now is if im cast into the show for the remainder of the series. To the producers out there, i can be found in Melbourne, Australia and i am more than happy to work for nothing. RIP Dana Fairbanks - Your with Mr Pibbles now - Bring on Anastasia, wink wink

Comments: I can't believe Dana's character is gone. While I was watching this season, I figured that the plot would end as it did, but I couldn't grasp it when it actually happened. I think that everyone felt Alice's pain as she was sitting on the hospital floor crying. Even though this is not real life, many people go through situations such as the one portrayed in the series; so I think that her death hit hard for some people. Dana will definitely be missed.

Comments: I definitely see that I am not the only one heartbroken and in shock by the turn of events that has taken MY favorite character from a show that I so once enjoyed. The "only" reason I have stayed loyal to the L Word is because of the characters, we have grown to love each and every one of them except for JENNY AND MAX, sure I'm not alone on this one, but what in the world is going on with the writers? There's not a decent story line to even go with unless all you care about is who is cheating who, and who is being true, not a single relationship yet that shows lesbians CAN BE true! Makes me think that we are only being lured in by the beauty of these girls rather than the depth of their characters, there's so many different angles that the writers could take to actually make the L Word an accomplished show, but it's not about that, it's about gorgeous girls and S E X! I personally enjoy the L Word girls because of their fine acting, their humor, and just the whole idea that such a group of girls would have the wonderful dynamics that they do. It's definitely not for any of the story lines, I mean, it seems as though after each episode, my group of friends that I gather with every Sunday night, will just sit and stare at eachother once it's over and finally say.. WHAT THE F#$K??? the show is retarded, give these girls a place in this world, let them establish decent relationships and let them deal with other hardships rather than their gfs' going off and screwing anything that moves. The writers are giving homosexuality a bad rep, like we don't already have this, let us been seen for more than just sexual objects. As for Dana, I loved her, each and every time I think about her dying off the show I get this huge lump in my throat and my heart, well, it's just broke. You wouldn't think that a fictional character could leave such an impact on ones' self, but Dana's attitude, personality, style, and above all, her wonderful humor, stood out way beyond anyone elses. Going with the breast cancer was a great awareness BUT, having Dana die from it did no justice. If anything, makes women lose hope for ever beating it. Anyways, hope the writers of L Word realize what a huge mistake they've made by getting rid of THE most adored character on a show that is obviously going nowhere but downhill. Your biggest audience will enevidably end up being straight men. Good job, and thanks..... for nothing! ex-L Word fan

Comments: Hi @ all from Germany! Today, it's my first visit on this site. And what did I do first? Yes, I clicked on this article and wondered why you should say thank you to Erin Daniels... Just to explain: Here, we have Season 1 on DVD but it is not yet on TV. I know, that's really a big joke. Don't laugh, please. :-) I don't know exactly what will happen in the coming episodes and I don't want to know every detail. Just a little bit. :-) Anyway, Dana is my favourite character and I can't describe what she means to me. I was so happy to read that there will be even a fourth season. But how will the future of the L Word look like without Dana? Very, very sad, I guess. Your comments on the other guys (for example Bette, Tina ...) don't make me happy, either. I wish they would have chosen another character. Why Dana? “Losing the light” already sounds soooo sad. I can’t believe it.As I already said: I can't describe how wonderful she is. (You do this better - my English.) :-) Now, I can't really look forward to the coming episodes. I don't want to think "She is going to die" each time she appears. But I guess, I have to ENJOY the episodes with her and besides, I really want to say thank you to Erin Daniels. You are amazing. It is a little comfort for me to read how many of you love Dana. Thank you, it is great to read your thoughts. PS: I hope my English is not too bad. :-)Dana, in my dreams you stay alive. Forever.

Comments: I am so disappointed in the writing--Dana had breast cancer (as have many of our friends in the past years) but having her die so suddenly is missing the point. First of all, Rose Troche is preaching to the choir--many lesbians already do get mammograms and do breast self-exams. Having Dana contract the disease, go through chemo, and then die so quickly will only discourage younger women to NOT get check-ups. I have a very good friend who had the disease, did a biopsy, chemo, and is now over 5-years cancer-free. She said the episode freaked her out and sends the message,"don't go to the doctor, because you'll end up dead". I realize this is just a TV show, but we all know all the characters are more beautiful than your average gal, so why suddenly become realistic and have a great character die? I really hate this story-line, and truly believe if they had Dana get cancer and find it early, go through the treatments, then beat the disease, it would have prompted more women to go to their doctors. This way it only scares those who aren't inclined to have check-ups, and anger those of us who do and who are doing fine.Bad writing choice.

Comments: Ok, I press the button before i was done! Anyway, i was saying that I was sad and upset, and I feel that the writers were more after an Emmy, or a Glad award than anything else. Dana living with cancer, and surviving it would have been a much more powerful storyline. Specially for a lesbian, the whole image thing, and the fact that she was an athlete on the show. Her character with breast cancer could have brought a variety of resources to be shared in the show. Dana was such an important character in this show, and I felt that i identified with her the most, especially because I have always been an athlete. I am extremely sad for her loss, and I am considering not watching it anymore. And for the record, there is always South of Nowhere. Erin, I love you as "Dana". You will be missed! But Dana's character is just so endearing, I couldn't help but wave a flag for her too! Hats off to Erin for doing a stellar job the past three seasons, especially this one! I wish you the best of luck wherever you go from here. This is gonna sound stupid, but I have a "Dana-moment" everyday: I live beside a Subaru dealership. What?? o_O It's not like I planned it! Comments: I never comment on this site, but after having read nearly half of the comments to this article, I couldn't help myself. The breast cancer story line, or indeed any other story line in any show doesn't have to give hope to anyone or empower or educate. It is a TV show, it is fiction, it's entertainment and it's also commercial. You like it- you watch it, you stop liking it- you stop watching it.Maybe some people have lost sight of the fact that is really is just entertainment and not community service or therapy.Besides, I don't know about you but I personally like it when a sohw or a movie don't go exactly like I'd like 'em to and are not completely predictable. In real life, as in art, people break up, people die, people are sometimes mean and bitchy. Sure, when I watch the show, like every dyke, I identify with some things and I get all sad when Bette and Tina split and all emotional when Dana dies but I really don't think it'd be a very interesting show if Bette and Tina were a perfect couple all the time and Shane didn't fuck around and Alice didn't get dumped and act like a fucking hilarious nutcase! What I'm saying is, what makes it a good show is being unique in not fitting into every TV show pattern and also they got some really hot chicks.

Comments: One and a half weeks after Danas death and I'm still not over it. Which surprises me. After all it is "just" a tv show. But here I am still sad and angry. I guess making me go through those feelings was the point for the authors to kill the character. They want to make us feel like we have really lost a good and beloved friend. But honestly I don't agree with it. I don't watch a show to feel bad or to be taught about every tragedy that might occur to someone. Actually I like to be entertained and have a good time which of course includes some drama. But the show is becoming darker and darker. We had Jennies very detailed and lasting journey through all of her crap last season, and we had Bette's father dying of cancer(!!)also last season. Now we have a menopause topic, Max's journey to become a man, a beloved character dying of breast cancer (which is on top unrealistic), sexual harassment between women, Tina becoming heterosexual and Bette fighting for child custody... COME ON!!! Do we have to touch every single political/educational aspect at once??Where is the fun part? Where is the entertaining drama we saw in season 1? I still am a fan of the show but I would be happy to be spared of further educational propaganda by the authors.

Comments: The depth of feeling in these comments is a testiment to the wonderful acting ability of Erin Daniels. She could take us through an emotional coaster ride in a single scene. She inabited her character in a way that made us trust the voyage. Whether struggling with illness or falling off the couch with Alice, we were willing witnesses to every scene she performed. Along with Katherine Moenning, she was a "break-out" character. I know I join many fans who wish Erin the best in the future. I hope that she can find projects that allow her to use her considerable talent and allow her fans to continue feeling emotionally moved.

Comments: First of all, I don't want to come off as being biast; Dana was not my favourite character... i adored her, but she was not my favourite (i leave that to alice, lol). But something must be said about the manner in which her death was handled, AND about the enormous turn around all of the girls have been faced with recently! I don't agree with the fact that Dana claimed to have had the lump for years, with no health discrepancies whatsoever, and then once felt by her partner; BOOM, shes on her death bed. it is unrealistic and truly not necessary. Dana was then left to die alone; first of all it is not fair to have such a great character leave a show on such harsh grounds, and second of all; think of alice. Enough said. Next; i feel that Dana is one of the few characters that all of us can relate to. Each and every one of us started out in the closet. We watched her and agonized with her as she was coming out... with her parents, with her career, with her LIFE. We could identify with her, because we have all been there. as the writers of this show; WHAT WERE YOU THINKING? you give the fans something to hold on to... you do not take away what keeps them coming back. We would not be watching your show could we not identify with your characters, and quite honestly, you ridded yourself of your best asset. Next; the changes you have put the girls through recently is rolling your show down hill. No one wants to see tina with a man, after how much shes already gone through with Bette. No one wants to see poor jenny back with a "male" after just having come out of the closet herself. You settle shane down. You turn alice into a lunatic. You turn lara into a homewrecker. You are showing us the kind of negativity that the world already pushes down our throats enough. We don't need to see one of our own portraying us the same way most of society already does. You gave us something wonderful, and provided us with an extended circle of friends, and now you are throwing it all away. I hope you are fully aware of what exactly you are doing to your fans, your ratings, and ultimately your show.I wish i could say that i support you and will continue to do so, but people can only stand up to so much disapointment before they walk away.

Comments: Ilene is so very very cruel to treat her fans the way she did in S3. Dana was the best character, she was realistic, funny and so adorabley corny and goofy. Erin Daniels is an amazing actress and to kick her out from the L word was the most ridiculous decision ever known to man kind. Like many have said, if the writers actually had a sense of integrity they would actually elaborate on the story line with showing Dana's struggle and eventually recovery from breast cancer rather then introduce the disease and have her die like 4 episodes later. I refuse to watch the L word without the beloved Erin Daniels/ Dana Fairbanks. Alice and Tasha? ugh. So what, after Dana dies they all just go back to their little lives, all acting fine. Up until, of course, Ilene realizes how bad she actually pissed us off and put Erin on the season finale as a ghost telling Alice to go get some and move on.Ugh.and I only know that thanks to searching Dana on youtube, cause I watched the first like two episodes of season 4 and realized its all garbage without Dana. You should've killed off Max, like when he's going in for his operation they realize he's got something going on. But Dana Fairbanks/ Erin Daniels? For shame.
