| You were asking about
what scene was deleted with the quote...speaking of which,
which deleted scene do you wish had NOT been deleted?
Erin: (thinking)…I’ll keep that
one to myself.
Group: Nooooo!
|
|
Diane: I don’t remember which scenes were
deleted. I haven’t really looked at the DVD, so I’m
not sure which ones were deleted…
Erin: The classroom scene when Simone says, “I
can’t do this…” – that was a lot longer,
and I liked the whole scene.
(Editorial note: the scene that Erin is referring to is part of
the autographed script that is being offered in both the current
Fan Fiction and Fan Video challenge contests).
myFandoms: I like the original better, too. It’s
about a page of dialog, and I think it worked really well. But another
scene that is getting a ton of attention is THE HUG that was cut—right
before Simone is taken away by the authorities. The million dollar
question is “What was the dialog in that scene?” because
we can see both Simone and Annabelle speaking, but we don’t
know what they say. So…what was it?
Erin: I actually liked that—I thought it
was really powerful.
Jobadge: REALLY powerful!!!!
Erin: I didn’t like what happened with me
and Mother Emaculata, and I think that was a big reason why it got
cut out—it was just awkward. But I really liked that scene.
Jobadge: But what were they saying to each other—Simone
and Annabelle? Annabelle was whispering in Simone’s ear…
Diane: I think I was saying, “It’s
going to be OK.” It wasn’t scripted.
(Editorial note: Katherine Brooks recalls this a bit differently.
See our interview
with her for her take on this scene).
myFandoms: Erin? What do you remember? This is important
because this is prime fan fiction material! Everyone wants to know
what was said—and the writers are making it up since we don’t
know.
Erin: If I were to watch it, I could tell you
what I said, but I think I said “I love you.”
Jacky: The reason I love that scene so much is
because up to then, Simone was fighting the attraction so intensely,
but after giving in to it and spending the night together, she doesn’t
care who sees them in each other’s arms. The way it was shot,
Annabelle’s arms are open, and Simone hurls into her, rocking
her back a bit. There’s not more “holding back.”
They had a crisis, and their feelings for each other overcame the
worries about who was around them and looking at them. I just love
that scene.
myFandoms: Have you watched any of the music videos
made of Loving Annabelle? Are you aware that there are,
literally, hundreds of music videos of Simone and Annabelle?
Diane: I’ve heard there are. I think I may
have, out of curiosity, clicked on one once. But I don’t really
watch them.
Erin: I don’t really watch them, but my
Dad calls me every time there is a new one to say “There’s
a new one!” beaker: I’m making my first
music video now…
Jacky: We’re trying to get her to do a deleted
scenes video—just putting together a video of only deleted
scenes. That’s the big thing right now—watching the
music videos in search of deleted scenes.
myFandoms: What's your personal opinion of Simone succumbing
to temptation while Annabelle was still underage and a student,
as opposed to waiting just a few weeks until she was 18 and no longer
a student?
|
|
Diane: My personal opinion is that I don’t
know what a couple of weeks would have done. It’s not
like she was thinking (lots of laughter). It wasn’t
so much about the age as it was about the student-teacher
relationship. Simone is in a position where she needs to be
responsible for Annabelle’s well being. There are power
issues. It was about that—not the age—in my opinion.
|
Erin: It’s interesting
because we’ve been asked this before, and my answer was always
that the message of Annabelle is that you can’t judge a situation
unless you’re in it. But about a year ago, I started teaching
high school, and my age difference to these kids was not as much
as the age difference between Annabelle and Simone. But some of
the boys would flirt with me, and it was extremely uncomfortable.
There was a boundary, and the flirting was not appropriate, so my
view on it did change after I started teaching high school.
