HOLLYWOOD, May 15, 2006 – Dallas Roberts, who plays Angus (or affectionately called Mangus by some) on Showtime Network’s The L Word stars in one of this Fall’s most anticipated family films, Flicka.
Flicka is based on one of the most beloved children’s books My Friend Flicka written by Mary Ohara. The plot of the film follows a young girl named Katy who wants to prove to her family that she can take over the ranch by trying to ride an impossible horse. When her father learns of her reckless plan he sells the wild horse and Katy must then find a way to win him back. Enter the wild mustang contest.
My Friend Flicka was originally turned into a theatrical production in 1943. One of the big differences between the 2006 version of the film and the 1943 version of the film is that the main character who befriends Flicka is actually a young girl instead of a young boy.
Dallas Roberts plays the role of Gus, a ranch hand on the family’s farm. Roberts’s other movie credits include Walk the Line where he played the legendary Sam Phillips, A Home at the End of the World, and The Notorious Bettie Page where he plays Scotty, a Pimp.
The leading role of Kat is played by Allison Lohman (Matchstick Men & Big Fish). The movie also stars country music star Tim McGraw as Kat’s father and Maria Bello (Coyote Ugly) as Kat’s mother. Flicka is directed by Michael Mayer and released by 20th Century Fox.
Flicka is a wonderful coming of age story about a girl, a horse, and her dreams. The release date is scheduled for October of 2006 in wide release.
