freelance Curve writer and then goes ballistic at the Curve magazine’s office because she didn’t like the review.

To celebrate its contribution to the queer pop culture history, the magazine threw a huge The L Word gala party at San Francisco’s chic W Hotel. VIPs scheduled to appear included The L Word cast members Pam Grier, Kate Moennig, Leisha Hailey, and producer/creator Ilene Chaiken.

The doors were opened at 8 pm for all the guests while DJ Saratonin began spinning music. The fans and the guest were socializing while waiting for the celebrities to show up, and I again was walking around until I met Katherine Brooks, writer and the director of Loving Annabelle.

At 9 pm the guests watched the screening of the last year’s Curve/The L Word party, where Ilene Chaiken and Daniela Sea participated in the event. After the video,

Suzanne Westenhoeffer, who was the MC for the evening, greeted the crows, thanked DJ Saratonin for the music, and then did a short comedic routine.

Suzanne introduced Curve magazine Executive Editor, Diane Anderson-Minshall, who was recently named one of PowerUp’s 2006 Top Ten Amazing Woman in Showbiz and also is the author of upcoming mystery novel series Blind Curves.

Suzanne Westenhoeffer then introduced Curve magazine Publisher, Frances Stevens, who started Curve 17 years ago and turned into the nation’s best-selling lesbian magazine.

Finally, Suzanne Westenhoeffer introduced Ilene who welcomed the audience and invited Kate, Leisha, and Pam onto the stage as well. The crowd went wild and honestly, I couldn’t hear one thing that any of them were saying.

Except for a Latina fan who was standing close to me and was trying to get Kate’s attention. Finally, she saw Kate looking at her and yelled, “I’m your Carmen.” Kate asked with amusement in her voice, “You’re my Carmen?” but I couldn’t hear anything else because the fans beside me began screaming excitedly. Most of them in front were Latina fans and unexpectedly Pam Grier began speaking in Spanish, which brought out more screams, applauses, and consequently, more noise.

The cast finally finished their few words, and Ilene introduced the new episode. They left the room but returned shortly after to watch part of the episode in the dark corner, surrounded by the Curve staff members.

Judging by the expressions on the cast members faces, I think they were pleased by the episode but maybe they were more interested in the fans’ reaction. They left after the audience saw the now famous ‘circles’ scene with Alice and Papi and, as I heard later, Kate and Leisha went to the Lexington bar for the evening.

The Curve party continued until midnight with all the guests dancing and drinking. The party was a wild success, and I hope that they will hold it again next year.

Comments: OMG I think I would've bopped "Carmen" on the head for busting an eardrum.

Comments: Omg how sweet "I'm your Carmen!" :)It's good that they're confronted with "older" characters! We all want to see Shane with Carmen...but I would have said to Sarah "I'm your Shane!" ;)
