October 31: Halloween in Key West

SUPER busy day. We grabbed a quick breakfast, where I ran into Jane Lynch. She's agreed to an interview with us!!! I'll be doing it later in the week.

I did L word stuff from 9:30 until 9:30 pm, minus a break here and there.

The day started with everyone gathering in the "Crow's Nest" bar. I have to say this bar is sooooo cool. It's at the top of the ship in the front with a panoramic view. We were at sea, so there was nothing but expanses of ocean. Gorgeous.

The people who went were all looking to be extras. I actually didn't want to be one because I wanted to be free to go check up on all the activities of the day. There were FIVE groups/scenes of extras needed.

1.The Sean Colvin concert extras...people in the audience Sean's show.

2. A group for something--I didn't catch, but they had to be committed to working 10:30 - 4 today and then again 10:30 tonight (Halloween party time....that may have something to do with it).

3. Couples extras

4. Guests of couples. More on these later.

5. Panel on lesbian dynamics extras.

I was asked to be an extra in this. How am I supposed to say no? Of course, I didn't.

So here's what we found out about all these groups/scenes and who was when:

1. The lesbian panel. This was COOL. It was pool side. This was actually the first of the three shootings. Dana was on a Q&A panel with the sex expert, the head of Olivia Cruises and resorts, and someone else. Don't know who she was. Extras comprised *most* of the audience, but there were Shane, Carmen, Jenny, and Alice sitting in row two. This took *forever to film*. First, they shot it from behind the people in the audience, facing the panel. The two "tryout" lines showed up in this scene: "Miss Sparkle, do you think it's possible to be in a committed relationship and still have a polyamorous lifestyle." Jenny got to ask the expert what her feelings were regarding "three way" sex.

A quick note on who was wearing (and drinking) what:

Alice: blue polyester 70's looking long blouse and pants. Grolsch beer.
Shane: burgundy keds, jeans, white shirt sometimes over black t-shirt (everyone ended up putting on sun screen; it was; hot and sunny today, and they were sitting in the sun). Corona w/lime.
Dana: jeans and a pink sweater wrappy thing. Maybe water. Don't remember.
Jenny: flapper type dress . Uh huh. Rhinestone flip flops. OH her hair is REALLY REALLY short now. She has a tattoo on the back of her neck.
Carmen: orange tank and jeans; margarita.

On one break, I got to talk to Sarah Shahi (Carmen. She is SWEET and gorgeous). Erin was reading this NY Times "newsletter" thingy we got under our doors this morning.

Erin, Kate, and Mia all smoke. Yuck.

Just about everyone was wearing accupressure bands to prevent seasickness.

2. There was a "commitment" ceremony scene today. None of our regular characters were involved--only extras including CATIE CURTIS! I spoke to Catie today. She's playing a show on Weds night, and she's agreed to an interview sometime this week. Look for my interview with Catie later in the week! In the audience were Shane and Carmen. Shane walked away with a look of disgust when she saw what the commitment ceremony was. Carmen stayed with a smile on her face.

3. The Sean Colvin concert extras were the last of the day. We were on this set and in the audience. The show was "attended" by Dana, Alice, Shane, Carmen, Jenny, and a guest character who plays a sex expert. They shot scenes of them sitting in there seats. There was some dialogue, but it was hard to hear. Later, when the concert began, they shot from *behind* them up to the stage. You'll probably see the back of my head in this one. Lovely.

After this filming, we first ran into Mia in the elevator. She seemed really nice (and sane). She had her mother with her. She said it was the first time her mother has watched her film since she was 21.

Later, Erin Daniels was on the elevator. She is THE NICEST person. I asked her for a picture for aroo, and she wanted me in it too. We did one with and one without. When we did the one with, she right away put her arm around my neck. Very sweet.

There is a closed set right now in the pool/hot tub area. I can't name names, but I can tell you the temperature in the hot tub is going to be going up tonight!

That's the majority of it so far. Today was just insanely busy running from set to set. Tomorrow will also have some filming including extras, and I was stay on board to catch everything I can. We're in Key West right now, so people are leaving the ship to go on shore. Fools. I'm planting myself right here! Key West will always be there (and I've been there before).

J/K were extras in a panel discussion with Dana on panel. Rest of the cast in audience as well. We should be very clearly visible in these scenes.

Cast attractive, but def. short, skinny and young. REALLY young. REALLY skinny. REALLY short. LOL!

UPDATE: After signing off I went to the Halloween costume party. They had a best costume contest. Near the end of all the contestants was a four member rock band all dressed up as guys. The 4 member band was Erin, Leisha, Kate, and Carmen!

When we returned to our room, we had L-word goodie bags on our bed. The bags had the L-word logo embroidered on them. We also received key chains, bandanas, and 'welcome' and 'stay out' signs for our door.
