November 5: At Sea

Ok, so the "patch" to prevent seasickness didn't work for me. I was horizontal all day due to rough seas. I got to watch the Season 1 Premiere twice, Under the Tuscan Sun twice, and Desert Hearts twice.

I did go to the special session with director of Desert Hearts, Donna Deitch. WOW was I glad!!!! She showed all the takes from the sex scene!!! Donna was very impressive, and her commentary about the actors was as well. She said she's close friends with both and is still in touch with them. Both were so professional, and although straight, they really believed in the film. It's still my favorite to this day. I remember when it came out, I went to NYC to see it. I took a subway up to the theater, and when I came up the stairs, I saw the largest gathering of lesbians I had seen in my life to that point. I was 23 and just coming out. It's an impression that will stay with me forever--the feeling of community and excitement. Donna Deitch will be one of my heroes always.
