The L Word Cruise

November 2: At sea

We saw Miss Sparkle at breakfast this morning--looking way, way tired.

Lots of filming scheduled for our day at sea as we make our way to Cozumel. There is going to be a huge pool party scene shot from 12:30 until 5 or so. After that, there is going to be another disco scene and then something in the dining room.

I just heard the interviews are *not* going to happen on board. The cast is just filming constantly (as I've seen), and they're all too busy and too tired. We'll be doing phone interviews after I return. Hey, I'm thrilled! Sure, I'd have preferred in person interviews, but I'll take what I can get!

Updates from November 2.

The disco scene was a huge ordeal. TONS of extras (including Chrispay and Janefor1 from our board!). They must have been on the back deck where the salt water pool is for 4 - 5 hours. The scene had Alice and Dana descending from a level up, going down the stairs to the pool. Alice goes to Miss Sparkle, who is on the right side of the pool signing autographs. Shane joins them. In the meantime, Jenny is on the left side of the pool. She jumps up to do some group dancing to "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." Carmen comes from the back left and is clearly looking for someone. She spots Jenny dancing in the midst of a bunch of women. Her faces drops a bit, and she looks upset. After staring for a few seconds, she walks away.

Quick clothing update for those of you who care: Alice--red polka dot bikini with a gauzey type thing around her, like a skirt. Dana: black bikini. Some sort of cover-up thingy. Shane--jeans and the red cut off shirt over a red t shirt. Jenny, this balloonish kind of skirt with a white t shirt and a bandana. Gypsy look. Carmen--white tank top, green pants that looked hot (temp.). It was horribly hot out there!

Comedian Karen Williams was on the set, too.

Later in the day, they were supposed to film in the Casino. Again it did not happen--they ran out of time.

Erin and Leisha took a break and used the Internet Cafe. Mia had been blackberrying like mad the morning before during the check in scene.

BIG NEWS: I INTERVIEWED ROSE LAM!!!!! Yup--exclusive on board interview!!! I'll be posting it in a few days!

After that, they shot a scene on the top floor "disco". This is the gorgeous Crow's Nest--panoramic views. Shane, Jenny, and Carmen were in that scene.

We had attended a session in which Olivia Cruises and Resorts talks about their future trips. During the Eastern Caribbean cruise, April 3 - 10, 2005, they will be showing a sneak preview of this episode, Land Ahoy.

The Q&A panel was for the film festival. Rose Lam represented TLW. Also on the panel: Donna Deitch (Desert Hearts!), Jane Lynch, Leslie Kleinberg. Rose thanked everyone for their patience.

Rose had a few comments about being a producer: She said she wanted to be the best producer she could be not the best FEMALE producer. She said that pretty much everyone who makes decisions for the show in Vancouver are women. That "just happened". She also said no one should let others label us. Don't define yourself. Just move ahead. (All this in relation to careers in entertainment).

At 11 pm, they shot a very extensive scene in the dining room. Dana and Alice descended the staircase to the lower dining room. They were again dressed as Capt. Stubing and Julie. It seems she had, uh, something inside her pants that she was holding on to. She later put a napkin over her lap.

At one big round table were 3 extras, our 5 characters, and the Captain. Jenny and Carmen sat next to each other. Alice and Dana together. Phoebe and Shane together. Each "couple" was separated from others by extras, etc.

There was a Captain's toast.
Lots of extras at other tables.
Extras at another table were kissing.

Jenny was wearing a black evening dress. She a blouse and black pants.
Kate was holding her head between shots. The boat was rocking *badly* that night. She seemed--like dozens of others on the ship--to be feeling the effects of the motion. I couldn't imagine having to "work" when I felt that way. These actors and crew put in an INSANE amount of hours!! Shooting was still going on at 1 am.
