The L Word Cruise

November 1: Key West

Lots more filming today. Two scenes were open set. There was LOTS behind closed doors of cabins.

The first scene was with all 5 characters as they were checking in to the front desk--sort of like checking in at a hotel front desk. That's not realistic, but it made for a fun morning of filming. They shot it over and over and over....About 12 - 15 times. TONS of extras. They were asking people to help out and participate. Again, I just wanted to observe. Again, I was in the middle of the damned filming for a couple of the takes. I know most people would sell a vital organ to have this opportunity, but I'd be much happier just sitting on the sidelines taking it all in.

As the Dana comes to the top of the stairs before check in, a group of fans recognize her and ask for an autograph. Alice eventually breaks up the lovefest. Alice also meets with the captain and others and has some dialogue with them.

Clothing. Again, they've got Jenny dressed like a Martian on crack. Everyone else--pretty typical stuff (for them).

OH! While this was being set and reset (x 12), one of the L word crew introduced me to Rose Lam!!!! She's a sweetheart and very much wants me to have interview time with the cast. WOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

The next scene to be filmed was on the gangway entering the ship. This was filmed in Key West, which doesn't matter since you never see the city behind the characters as they board. As all five walk on board, the Miss Sparkle character is talking--and then making out--with a woman on the gangway. Our 5 walk past her. She's head is turned around like Linda Blair in the Exorcist. This blonde dreadlocked cellist shows up in a scene later in the day on the back deck, where Miss Sparkle is in the audience watching. I think Jenny was there, too.

There was supposed to be Casino scene shot yesterday, but it was switched to today. The rest of the filming on Monday, 11/1 was behind closed doors in one of the cabins. ;-)

This was cute...whenever the extras are needed, there is an announcement made across the ship's PA system. For one of these announcements, "Dana and Alice" made the call. Very sweet.

Erin and Leisha showed up before the Karen Williams show (fabulous comedian!). They thanked everyone for their participation as extras and apologized to everyone for any inconveniences the shooting has posed. Yes, there are some very cranky people on board who don't give a damn about the shooting. They are just po-ed about areas being blocked off and inaccessible. As they left the stage, Leisha said to Erin, "come on, baby", :-D

We had just left Key West when they were on stage, and we had the most motion we've had to date. Erin said she was having trouble "finding the horizon". I guess those sea sick wrist bands were for real and not just costume!

Vicki Shaw introduced Karen, but she had a few comments about how TINY the L word women are. She made a joke about many of them being "straight", saying she'd like to help out but she'd just break like a stick because they are so small.

This trip is exhausting for everyone! We're all going to need a vacation after this cruise!

In the meantime, check the board for exciting pre-trip info. There will be a question and answer session with the cast, so submit questions for us to ask for you!
