 L6 Convention in Blackpool, September 18-20, 2009

L-word.com L6 The L Word Convention

I have to admit something: after being in Blackpool twice now for the L Word conventions this place began growing on me. If the weather is not too bad, all your friends are there and you have enough money to buy some food at the nearest supermarket so you won’t have to subject yourself to indigestible local meals – then this place isn’t so bad.

Another Convention is quickly approaching and I think it’s going to be very exciting. Pam Grier was announced as a first guest a few months back. This is Pam’s first Convention and I’m pretty sure there will be plenty of topics to talk about with her, including her role as Foxy Brown, her book that’s coming out next year or The L Word. She is a living legend with more than 50 movies and TV shows to her credit, not to mention all the interesting people she had met throughout her life and career.

One of the most exciting news about this latest Convention is the appearance by Mia Kirshner. She admitted before that she is very shy and L2 Convention was her one and only appearance. I met her then and I was really amazed how wonderful Mia was as a person. She was funny, intelligent and beautiful. I always hoped she would come to the Convention again but we were told that it wasn’t likely to happen.

However, something truly wonderful happened during L6 Convention when Jennifer Beals brought some of her photographs to auction off to raise money for Mia’s charity. The auction brought more than 10,000 pounds and Mia was so grateful to the fans that she agreed to come to another convention in the spirit of gratitude.

Now, with the end of season six quickly approaching, I know that many of the viewers are not very fond of Jenny Schecter…I’m one of them. I didn’t want her to die but her behavior was driving me crazy for the last few episodes. Though Mia and Jenny are two absolutely different people, I’m really interested to see what kind of questions she will be asked at the Q&A sessions.

Another amazing guest at L6 is Rose Rollins. She’s nice, she’s funny, she’s absolutely gorgeous and I never tire to hear her laughing. It’s absolutely addicting. I actually hope that Mia and Rose will have at least one Q&A session together because I think we’ll be in for a lot of fun…a lot, a lot.

Making her third appearance at the convention is Guinevere Turner. Once again, she is another amazing and interesting person to meet. Though Guinevere only appeared in seasons one and two and her character Gabby also showed up briefly in episode 601, there’s plenty things to talk to her about because she’s a writer, director and an actor…and a very intelligent and funny person.

And last but not least, the latest announcement was made that Kate Moennig is the next guest. I’m pretty sure that Shenny fans will be delighted to see those two together on the same stage just as TiBetters were lucky enough to have Jennifer and Laurel appearing together last year. Now Shenny fans have a chance to ask what the actresses themselves think about this pairing and the bizarre ending of the series.

Sean Harry promised one more guest for the L6 Convention. Though not a principal cast member, this last guest would be someone as exciting as the rest of the guests, I’m sure. At any rate, I think we all should feel lucky that even though the show is coming to an end, we still have a chance to see the cast members and find out what are they doing now.
