INDEX of all photos, interviews, and reports
from L5
Day 3 – Sunday
As I mentioned in my report from Day 2, my friends and I had too
much fun on Saturday night, dancing and drinking away our sorrows,
so the next morning I looked like a troll. Seriously. And I had
more photo shoots ahead of me, including a group photo and separate
photos with Jennifer and Laurel. I’m not photogenic at all,
and being hangover and exhausted didn’t help at all.
Photo shoots – Sunday morning
Group photo was first. It was a little more expensive than at other
conventions but only 100 of them were offered, so I got myself one
to keep my picture collection consistent. Plus, it was another excuse
to have Jennifer and Laurel in the same picture one more time. They
both were sitting down again but this time the chairs were much
closer to the one in the middle for the attendees. Janina, Adrienne
and Rachel were standing behind.
I was first in line because I was already near the room when they
called for the group photo shoot, so it wasn’t intentional
on my part. I actually tried to switch with someone because I didn’t
want to be the first one but alas, I had to go.
I sat down between Jennifer and Laurel and tried to figure out
how to position my legs when suddenly Jennifer said to me, “We
are waiting for you to start the auction.”
I didn’t realized at first that she probably remembered me
bidding like crazy in Philly when they were auctioning Bette and
Tina clothes items and photos from The Kiss and so I asked, “What
auction, what do you mean?”
Jennifer: “Kate told me that she thinks that you don’t
like her because all you talk about is Bette and Tina.”
I was surprised to hear that because even though I do ask the cast
members a lot of questions about Bette and Tina but I had never
asked Kate about them. I only interviewed her once at LA Convention
and I was actually really careful NOT to ask about TiBette. So I
turned to Jennifer and said, “What are you talking about?
I love Kate.”
Jennifer smiled and said, “You have to prove it then because
I have two pictures of Kate for auction and since you seem to have
a disposable income, you better make the auction going.”
‘Hmm,’ I thought. ‘I bet the pictures are taken
by Jennifer. I have no money but what the heck, I’ll start
the auction. Out loud I asked, “What kind of pictures?”
“One is of Kate on the set and another is Kate before the
Vanity Fair photo shoot.”
I remembered a few photos by Jennifer posted on OurChart and in
Advocate magazine and I knew what photos she was talking about so
I said, “I’d like to get the one of Kate on the set…is
thousand enough?” Not that I had the money but when Jennifer
asks you something to do, how can you say No?
Jennifer smiled again and said, “You can split it and get
two.”
Before I could reply, the photographer said, “Ladies, we
have to start taking pictures.” Everyone laughed and my group
photo came out really good actually, even I looked okay on it and
I never look good on my photos.
Then I had my picture taken with Rachel and when I approached her,
she offered her hand for a handshake and said, “How are you?
What’s you name?” and then she laughed, adding that
she was kidding. I replied, “It’s not me, it’s
my evil twin.” Rachel laughed again and we have our picture
taken.
Photo shoot with Jennifer was next. I actually bought two photos
because I’m not photogenic nor I am pretty, so I usually take
two photos just in case if one looks like a total disaster. When
I sat down by Jennifer to take a photo, I quickly said to her, “I
just checked my credit card, so save one of Kate’s photos
for me.” Jennifer smiled and I think she said, “Okay,”
but I’m not sure because I had to concentrate on the photographer
again. I went back in line, took a second photo and then went in
line for Laurel. For me the photo shoot was over and I was again
on my way to the main hall for Q&A sessions.
Q&A session – Sunday
Janina’s Q&A session was first but I was waiting by the
‘green room’ to get my interview with Laurel so I missed
it. While I was waiting, I could hear laughter so I know everyone
enjoyed it once again.
Jennifer/Laurel/Rachel
Again, as all three of them came up on the stage, the fans began
cheering and applauding loudly for a long time. Rachel was wearing
very cute pink cowgirl hat with feathers around the edges and writing
‘Kiss Me Quick’ on the front. Jennifer sat down first
and Rachel quickly took her sit in the middle, which left Laurel
the only seat on the left. Rachel just looked at them with a smile
and said, “Just want to say for the record that they were
already broken up. I didn’t do it.” Laurel replied that
Tina was pregnant and lonely and no one could have resisted Helena
Peabody. It looked like they all are such good friends and they
had a lot of fun at this Q&A session. Rachel brought her season
4 DVD and asked the fans to sign it. I don’t know if she was
able to collect all 1,600 signatures.
While everyone was taking pictures, Laurel mentioned that Jennifer
and she started yesterday with moans, referring to the previous
Q&A session and Jennifer said that Rachel owed us an orgasm.
Actually, at the Vagina Monologs in LA last year, Rachel was the
one doing the different kinds of orgasms, the same sequence that
Jennifer performed in New Orleans. Practice makes perfect, so when
Jennifer said it, Rachel happily obliged and it was hilarious.
Again, I just will go through the highlights of this session since
you all have probably read other reports.
- An Alice’s fan asked them to describe Leisha and how was
it working with her. Laurel replied that it’s impossible to
describe Leisha in one word because she’s a renaissance woman
and she’s good at so many things, because she’s an amazing
actress, singer, queen of improvisation and a comedienne. She has
a great memory because you can give her a ten-page monolog and she
will know it perfectly in an hour. When Laurel was auditioning for
Tina, she saw Leisha in the bathroom doing her hair and thought,
“If she’s here to audition for Tina, I’m f***ed.”
Leisha just smiled at her and she was very warm and friendly. And
then Laurel added that this is the essence of Leisha. Rachel and
Jennifer also said that Leisha is great and hilarious and she can
do anything, and it was so great working with her, because Leisha
has great instincts about the scenes. Jennifer mentioned that sometimes
Laurel and she would just sit and watch Leisha do her thing, especially
during the group scenes.
- Talking about sex scenes, Jennifer said again that they were
all choreographed and then someone asked about stir-fry sex and
what happened to all the food that Bette was cooking. Everyone laughed
and Jennifer said that the dishes were probably ruined and they
would have to throw them out. Then the same fan asked again if they
heard the smoke alarm because they could’ve burn the house
down. Laurel just shrugged and Jennifer replied, “I think
the smoke alarm went off for a different reason.” She said
it with such a serious face, you wouldn’t think she was making
a joke. Everyone laughed, including Rachel and Laurel, and Jennifer
just smiled.
- Ilene was always good about improvisations and had a very open
door policy so the cast could have some influence on the storylines.
Ilene had a pretty good idea where their stories were going but
there were always possibilities of changing some lines of dialogs
because the actresses got to know their characters pretty well in
the last 6 years and Ilene was fine with some changes.
- Someone asked what was Bette thinking when she had the throw-down
scene with Jodi in episode 507 and Jennifer said that Bette was
feeling ashamed for having an affair with Tina behind Jodi’s
back, but she was also confused and angry with her. Bette knew that
she loves Jodi but Jodi was not her home and Bette was thinking,
‘Why can’t she be the person I need’. It was very
complex and emotional scene.
- When asked if she will consider doing another TV series, Jennifer
said that she would do it but it has to be something she believes
in. And then she said that it would be hard to compare because she
feels spoiled being on the L Word with such fantastic crew and the
cast.
Then they began talking about difference in making a movie and
TV series and Rachel said that in the series there are a lot of
opportunities to explore different layers of relationships and develop
sort of a background story for your character or a couple, which
pretty much never happens in the movie.
Laurel said she also feels spoiled and that it’s so different
to do cable series because every episode feels like a mini-movie
and they have freedom to explore their characters, especially when
you doing a story arch for the duration of six years. Laurel also
added that during this time a lot of same things happened to her
as they happened to Tina and it made her feel really close to her
character, things like wanting to start a family, which was exactly
as Bette and Tina storyline. Then Laurel joked that they have an
adoption story in season 6 and she just adopted a baby girl, so
Rose Troche even called her at one point and said, “I promise,
we’re a not stealing ideas from your life.”
- A question was asked if Bette and Tina ever grieved together
for the loss of their son in season one because he was never mentioned
after that and didn’t even have a name. Jennifer said that
we have to assume that they grieved for him but it was off screen
because you can’t show everything. Some gaps we have to fill
for ourselves. Laurel said that some people don’t name their
children until they are born and it was important to show that Bette
and Tina moved on from it together.
