Atlanta Season 4 Preview

<<PREVIOUS

At 7 pm, the doors opened and people began to stream in. Luckily, it was a warm evening here in Atlanta, so waiting outside wasn’t too cold. It did start to rain later on. At 7:30, the Showtime contingent arrived and was ushered into the VIP room. Daniela came with her girlfriend, Bitch. I’ve seen Daniela at two events now and she and Bitch are very close. (I hate to call the woman “Bitch” because she seems anything but.) Daniela and Bitch and Dallas were very jovial and outgoing. Daniela and Bitch had pink martinis (maybe Cosmos?) and seemed to be having a great time. The whole contingent mugged for the cameras. I asked Daniela how her arm was. Turns out she had broken her hand while hiking in Vancouver, and had to wear a full cast for awhile. Tonight, she wasn’t wearing the cast and said it was much better.

The stage area had a roped off section for the Showtime folks and VIPs to sit and watch the show. About 8:30, Melissa took to the stage to make some announcements about the fire marshall, since the crowd had gotten so big. At this time, Daniela and Dallas were supposed to come on the stage and introduce the show, but they were running late and Melissa had to “stretch” her segment, as she said, filling the time. The crowd was getting rowdy after standing for an hour-and-a-half, and started to chant “Max. Max. Max.”

“Hey, you know why they’re late?” said Melissa, good-naturedly, “Because they went outside to talk to all the people who couldn’t get in. Now you feel bad, don’t you.”

True enough, Daniela, Bitch, and Dallas, were walking down Spring St. greeting those still standing in line. (Later, those people were able to get in when the WetBar decided to open its upstairs room, the SkyBar, so that everyone could get in.) Not only that, the threesome proceed to meander through the other rooms of the bar, talking to people and posing for pictures on their way back inside. Finally, they were taking so long, that Melissa took her microphone and went and got them from the crowd and pulled them onto the stage. Of course, everyone went wild.

Daniela introduced Bitch to the crowd by saying “This is my girl,” and also later referred to her as “my girl.” (Maybe she doesn’t  like to call her “Bitch” either.) They are a delightful couple. Dallas had his Euro-trash look going on, and I wondered where he had jetted in from. He spent a lot of time hanging with the folks in the VIP room, just like any other guy.

Comments: I'm so excited about this season!! I hope that Laurel Holloman (Tina) gets more story time either this season or next season. I look forward to the L Word being entertaining again, instead of discouraging and depressing.

Comments: I'll believe it when I see it. Usually hubris is only overcome by complete disaster, so here's hoping we, via Showtime were able to deliver an adequate ass-kicking to she of the bizarre and muddled thinking, the mighty Ms. Chaiken. And while I quite enjoyed the charms of Sarah Shahi, and have nothing what so ever against Ms. Gavanker (never having seen her), I have to wonder why Ms. Chaiken has been unable to find an Hispanic woman capable of portraying an Hispanic woman.

Comments: I am looking forward to season 4 and I hope they aren't blowing smoke. JB was on Showtime talking about this is the going to be the best season in the history of something. I just hope IC wasn't off to the side with a gun making her say that...lol.

Comments: I hope this assessment in the article is truthful. I am a TiBette 'shipper and at no time did I find them "TiBoring" except for their strange behavior in S3. I chalk it up to JBeals' real life pregnancy and concerns there might have been for her health or her unborn baby's health. But I always felt they were the LTR couple and had a special chemistry. I hope this returns somewhere in S4. This is JMO and other fans love different pairings. To each her own.

Comments: I've been a loyal fan from the beginning. Though season 3 was depressing, and had alot of "what!?" moments. I believe in the show, and i continue supporting these women. It's the first time in history we have a show like this, it's not going to be perfect. They try new things every season to see what works, and they're learning. I think ALOT of people were very harsh. Im not saying we should not complain, but the way alot of people reacted calling them stupid and saying the show was a peice of shit and stuff...that was too far. I believe there's a way to get your point across without being brutal to these people who are just trying to make a successful show. With that said, i'm excited for season 4. I'm just bummed that my state has a gay community that doesnt like to party, because we have no premier party. But i'll be celebrating! yay!

Comments: You know what, maybe I'm the only one, but I actually thought that Season 3 was a relief when compared to the terrible writing and ridiculous and slow storylines of Season 2. Maybe some bad things happened in Season 3, but I thought they were well executed. I too disliked many of the characters by the end, but to me that signifies that the writing was good because otherwise (like in Season 2) I wouldn't give a crap about anyone. Anyway...can't wait for the new season. Wonder how many people are attending the viewing parties, I know I am!

Comments: I wait to be convinced. i was utterly scared off watching season three because of listening to my American friends becoming more and more desperate as S3 went on. In fact i will never watch S3 because i know it totally ruined the love of the show of some writers on the site and i was not going to take a risk. Alpha-Bette will be welcome but why no Holloman centre stage ? Evil IC has said that when they first saw LH with JB the chemistry was amazing - so -- is she scared of that dynamite ? Pam, Leisha, Jennifer and Laurel act all others off the screen so its good to see MM and CS on board.

Comments: Can I just ask why they keep saying 'The Papi character, played by Gavanker, brings the culture of East Los Angeles into the women's trendy West Hollywood world.' What is she gonna bring that they haven't seen before? I'm not saying that Carmen represented all Latina lesbians but what is papi going to bring that we didn't already see? Are we going to be introduced to her family that will be different from Carmen's? Will she have magical Hispanic powers? Do they consider East LA another country? I don't know why it bothers me when ever I see that quote. I'm still excited to see this season anyway.

Comments: I don't understand you.. why do you think S3 was a bad story? just because it's not a happy show for you? You have to learn to watch and understand not only the story but what every single character has to say. Not because Bette and Ti are not together any more the story isn't good... if they were together it would be boring, if all characters were happy then it's time to end this story... don't you think? Yeah! I agree IC was insane when she decided to let Dana go... I can understand that it was necessary someone dies to show us the pain of loose but they could choose another character.. and yeah! Carmen it's not a good sample of latin culture... but I think the show overview is positive.. I totally agree with QuikSilver146 and Nipple_Confidence opinions.

Comments: Quite frankly, I think the only thing that needs to be changed about the L Word is IC herself! Ok..2 things..GET RID OF BETTY! Enough is enough! Ms Chaiken and her enormous ego are what's killing the L Word. Shame shame Ms. Chaiken! Time and time again you have chosen thought provoking, topics and then failed to deliver, educate, and entertain. Especially with Dana's cancer storyline. Yes,Dana dies and that's reality, but the last time I checked L Word was NOT reality television. How much more positive to all those touched by cancer had you educated your viewers through Dana's character, and had her survive thereby offering hope. Yes, we still have guest stars only now they are calling them "cast". Is there something wrong with focusing on the cast you already have??????? You have been blessed with an AMAZING group of talented actresses and yet you are always looking elsewhere. I for one will be AMAZED if there is a season 5 no matter how "good" they say season 4 is.

Comments: All right. I'm broke. I'm going to watch the L Word and see what happens. Personally, I would've liked it if they never killed Dana and let her and Alice get back together permanently. Those two were more than meant to be together. I have had a parental lock on showtime, because my parents already paid for showtime so we couldn't just unsubscribe, ever since the season 3 finale. I think the major stories are what happens with Bette- politically, what happens to Shane, and what about Jenny and Marina leaving the show together? The Shane story might be a little short but it'll have my attention. As for the writing team, I just hope they don't screw up like Ilene did and go FUBA Repair. Those who've seen Private Ryan know what FUBAR means. Stay strong and stay proud.

Comments: This article is absolutely written by someone from Showtime, why else would the site not give the name of the author, it's never failed to do so before. L-word.com is going to look silly if the fans don't agree with your assessment. It wont be the first time we have been deceived, remember season 2 when you announced that the sides published elsewhere were fakes, when they absolutely were not?

Comments: Reading this article actually has me excited about S4. I just hope the show lives up to it. I am a huge Tibette fan but at this point, I don't think you can just put them back together. T needs to finish her "journey" and B needs to find herself again. Then work them back together...as they should be. All I ask for is just one stable couple....that isn't straight.

Comments: Nothing like everyone getting excited. But alas, we can only hope that the show takes a turn for the better. Last season was all over the place and you just never knew what was really going on. From what I've read and seen, the reunion of Bette and Tina is not happening anytime soon. Sure tear them apart quicker than you can shake a stick, but hey lets not have them get back together in the same fashion. IC may be blind and sometimes oblivious to what we would all like to see but stupid I don't think she is. Thus I believe S4 is going to have a lot of dangling the carrot to get us to hold on for S5, lets be real without the fans their will be no S5. We don't need a thousand different stories, just a few that make sense. Sunday is fast approaching, I can only imagine what will all have to say come Monday.

Comments: Hopefully this is true, however it definately reads as a "pitch" promo from SHOWTIME. I hate that the bottom line is portrayed primarily as a corrective action to boost lagging sales revenue instead of a legitimate response to try to get the series back to the quality that "we" were treated to in the beginning. I understand that the financial impact of a show goes a long way in determining its future, but so do the viewers responses in general (to watch or not). Not everyone is ready to jump on a new product simply because of its association with TLW. Present quality dialogue, consistant storylines and most importantly, treat the viewers with the respect that we were afforded in the first 2 seasons. Sadly somewhere along the line, the dollar signs got in the way.

Comments: I agree with those who suspect that this is a Showtime promo -- especially since IC has been quoted in a recent interview with Go NYC magazine, "We know we have a passionate audience, but we never tell a story based on what the audience wants." Does this sound like someone who would've retooled her show in response to our comments on this website? As for us poor Tina fans, this brief description about her sounds very ominous...

Comments: By the way, what do they have Shane wearing in the above "Season 4 Cast Official Showtime Photo"? She looks like a cross between a third-rate Vegas lounge act circa 1966 and ventriloquist's dummy. I've always found the show's costuming a bit suspect. I guess that hasn't changed.

Comments: Yippee for Alpha Bette! Yippee for the fun Alice! I hope we get to see more of the sensitive Helena that we saw when she got screwed over by Dylan. Please dear God, I hope they fill in Tina's back story and explain her irritating (for us) journey into finding herself.m hopefully it will lead her back to Bette... where she and Bette both belong. About Angelica, is she going to be starting school this year or are they going to have her at her realistic age? The child in season 3 was obviouly way older than the character's age. Who cares about Jenny and Max. Anyway, I can't wait to see Season 4, and thanks, to Ilene et al, for listening to us.

Comments: Sorry...but how can we know that this wasn't posted by someone at Showtime? Cause, yeah, I kinda liked the first episode - but for start, it didn't last an hour but only 50 minutes (4 of recap s3) - the highlights are certainly Kate (Shane) and Leisha (Alice). I just hope they will develpo things better. And now I'm worried cause I'm starting to think that this article is not true. And what's up with people's hair??? couldn't they make them look at least similar to how they were at the end of s3!? come on!! Comments: I saw the edited ep1, s4 and enjoyed the fast pace, the drama, the continuing Tina-Bette debate (so true for ex, fighting over property e.g. the baby!!!0, loved the intervention where Tina gets to be ANGRY, loved the Lawyer's scene where Joyce gets to show her skills, Shane's descent into hell!!! yup that's life but brother Shay will save her and she will have family; hope we get some of Tina's back story; Jenny h looks healthier and is healthier she walked out on Marina & Claude!!! ALTHO i LOVE ME SOME KARINA lOMABRD and would like to see her often; great alphabette & hopefully fun Bette is back and she has some laughs and loving with Jodi even if the old communication issues come back and the exTina figures largely in their lives causing dissent and discord: thats what happens in real-life especially when there's property (the baby) to use as an excuse to keep up the contact/toss the passion around...hopefully Jodi will get pyssed off as will any of Tina's paramours and Bette & Tina will work off their excess energy with more brief encounters because they truly, deeply, passionately love each but just can't live 2gether, who doesn't know couples like that: hell, my own parents were/are like that and they're old people!!!! Helena I like Helena/Rachel and her mate Alice just as long as they don't do the nasty together; Kit has to shuck off boring Angus and get herself a hot woman!!!! The new line up promises excitement so lets hope the show fufills it early promise this season...I'd like to be watching it when I'm ninety!!!!
