  Why Should I order Showtime?

Written by Akiracolorblind

I’m a devoted fan of the L word. As the days are being counted down for the new and anticipating season, there’s only one question: Are we really ready for what’s to come?

We were left off with Dana’s death, Bette running off in the middle of the night with Angelica, Alice and Lara’s weird relationship, Jenny sleeping with another woman, leaving Moira/Max in the darkness, Kit becoming pregnant, Helena getting cut off by her mother and the disastrous Shane and Carmen’s wedding. (We already knew that Shane wasn’t going to marry her!)

Bette and Tina: our beloved ex-couple (however you want them to be)—will they ever see eye to eye or will they be going at each other throats throughout the new season? I thought that they were going to last, but we all knew that all good things will come to an end. Season Three for them was horrifying! Bette had, as I like to call a “breakdown” and wanted to find peace. Did she find peace? No! Tina told her that she had feelings for man and didn’t know what to do. That was the great fall of Bette and Tina ever getting back together. Tina and her new heterosexual relationship with Henry came into play. Bette didn’t like the idea of Tina taking care of their daughter because Angelica is mixed. How will the season start for them now? Bette still on an adventure with her daughter, or will she bring her daughter back to West Hollywood?

Shane, our sexy lothario: will she ever have a monogamous relationship or will she be the same “I don’t do sleepovers” lover that we fallen for? I didn’t like seeing Shane in a relationship. Don’t get me wrong, I love Carmen, but I didn’t seem out right for Shane to be in a relationship that we all knew that she didn’t want to be in. Shane cheated on Carmen with Cherie and then Carmen cheated on Shane with some random person that we don’t even know about. They make up by making love, but it still didn’t make things right. Shane asked Carmen to marry her and of course, Carmen said yes. Here comes Shane’s father, she’s just like him (what a coincidence!) and she also finds out that she has a little brother named Shay (will we see the little tyke in this season, or does he not exist?). Of course, Shane invites her father, stepmother to the wedding. Here came the demise of their wedding. Carmen, looking so beautiful in her wedding gown, and where’s Shane? Alice comes up to Carmen with a note, telling her sorry. That was the end of the Sharmen… So what happens with Carmen? Will we ever know or will we get thrown into a new six months without an explanation? I can see Shane and her life spiraling out of control in this new season, but will she find her true love? Will we see Cherie once again and ruin the chance of Shane getting her off the brain? (Hopefully not!) I really don’t want to see my adored character fall back into drugs, but we never know what’s up Ilene’s sleeves!

All right, I hate that I have to write about it… Our witty, lovable, softy Dana. She was the comic relief of the show, but her time was ended on Season Three. It started off with Alice stalking Dana and Lara almost throughout the whole season, until Dana found out that she had breast cancer. It was sudden blow to all of us, and we didn’t want to believe it. Our quirky Dana became cold, depressed and wanted to be alone. Lara wanted to be there and help her, but Dana forced her away. Alice came back into the picture and told Dana the deal to stop her mean ways before she ended up on her own. Dana began her chemotherapy and started to lose her hair. She ended up losing one of her breast, but Alice told her that she was still beautiful. We all thought that at one time that Dana was getting better, but she was only turned for the worse. She ended up in the hospital with Alice by her side. She ended up leaving us on Episode 3.10-“Losing the Light.” (Which I thought Alice gave a great performance I might add!) The crazy thing that happened was the funeral. Dana was cremated and her family made it seem that Dana was straight, but Alice shorted that as she stood up and told everyone that Dana was gay. Ilene had a beautiful dedication to Erin Daniel’s character as Dana at the beginning of Episode 3.11, and I thought it was done beautifully! Our L women did the honor of scattering Dana’s ashes (that Alice stole) at Camp Imalahkaha. It was a great way to see a few memories that our ladies shared about our beloved Dana. I hate that Ilene killed off one of her wonderful characters, but I guess it was for the best (I can’t believe I just said that!).

Alice: I loved her in the beginning of the season as she stalked and chased Dana around West Hollywood. Her and Helena became friends (I always wanted to know how did that happen?). She met this so-called vampire named Uta (which I might add that I did like this character!). Even though I didn’t think that would have been a healthy relationship for Miss Pieszecki, I’m glad that it didn’t go to far with these two. But things got worse for Alice (and all of the L word fans!); Dana was diagnosed with breast cancer. When Lara went off to France, Alice was the only one there for Dana. She took care of her and was at her bedside at the hospital on her final days. It didn’t get better for Alice as she lost her best friend to breast cancer. Her life went down the tube, but things were different when she saw Lara at Dana’s door. The two women walked into the house and began to grieve over their lost. Before we knew it, they were kissing. To me, it was really weird and wrong, but kind of a turn-on (sorry, forgive me for that!). Alice and Lara began to see each other for “grieving” reasons, but Lara wanted to talk to Alice about where they were heading. BUT Alice didn’t want to “talk about it.” So in Season Four, will there be an Alice and Lara relationship, or are we left in the dark about it?

Jenny, Jenny, JENNY! I love her character, but couldn’t she be the one to be killed off? (I know some of you agree with me!) Jenny went back home to Skokie, Illinois for therapy, but it doesn’t last long. She meets Moira the transgender at a club and brought her home to have sex. Jenny’s stepfather walks in on them and tells Jenny to get out, but Jenny already had her things packed and ready to head back to LA with Moira tagging along. These two bored me at the beginning until Moira’s transformation as a man. Jenny began to shoot Moira up with male hormones, and Moira starts her turn as Max AKA her male ego. After a while of being injected with hormones, Max has a very hot temper and rude manners. As we watched these two confused characters, we see that they’re not going to last very long (which I hope because I really don’t like Moira/Max). What did Jenny see her in the first place? Will Moira/Max return to Skokie, Illinois or live in a place that she can’t call home?

Kit “the woman” of the group has something in tow. She’s pregnant with the “manny” AKA Angus. At first, Kit didn’t want anything to do with Angus, but Angus did everything in his power to have Kit in his life. The two hit it off very well, and we got to see Miss Kit Porter do some of her famous singing with Betty and Nona Hendryx. Kit and Angus got more intimate and before we know it, we find out that Kit is pregnant. Just to make sure of that, Kit has taken probably a dozen pregnancy tests (which we see sitting on the bathroom counter). Kit tells Angus, and he’s happy, but Kit isn’t. She’s not ready for this, but Angus told her that he’d be there for her. So are we ready for Kit to be a parent, or are things going to turn for the worse for our heterosexual relationship?

Last, but not least: Helena! We all saw a different side to Helena. She was now softer and gentler than she was in Season Two. She began to see a tarot reader and found out that there was a woman coming her way. The descriptions of the woman made i t sound like it was Alice, but later we found out it were Tina (another, what coincidence?). Helena opened up a movie studio and hired Tina on. Everything was going great for Helena until she made a filmmaker named Dylan Moreland. Helena fell head over heels for this woman and just to find out that she has a boyfriend, but that doesn’t stop Helena. Helena and Dylan have a few, very sweaty and sexy flings with each other, and Helena can’t seem to let her go. Things didn’t get better for Helena; Dylan stabbed her in the back by slapping her with a lawsuit—thanks to her boyfriend Danny. Helena’s heartbroken and her mother comes to the rescue, but for how long? Dylan runs off with Helena’s (Peggy’s) money, but returns to give the money back and a video to Helena. Helena doesn’t listen to the tape; instead she put it on mute and just stared at Dylan’s image. As for the wedding in Vancouver, we see a nice side to Helena. She pa id for Shane and Carmen’s failed wedding and gave Shane’s father a whopping ten thousand dollars. Of course, he ran off with it and nobody knew where he went. Helena was devastated and was hit with another blow: her mother was cutting her off financially! So where will Helena be now? Homeless, living in a box, or will she try to get back on her feet? Will we see Dylan again?

I thought I give you guys a recap, even though most of us own all the seasons and know everything. BUT, where will these four new characters come into play? Will they stay or will they leave after a season or two? ? How many episodes will Marina be in before she leaves again? To me, the L word is not the same. It’s gotten crazier than ever, and I just hope that Season Four is a WHOLE lot better than Season Three. If it isn’t, will this be the end of our dearly loved the L word? Lets hope that Ilene knows what she's doing with Season Four…
