  SHOULD WE RENAME IT

Written by tfan

Reuters is now reporting that Cybill Shepherd is the latest addition to the L Word next season. With Marlee Matlin already on board, the cast is certainly going to be a lot grayer than the original one from the earlier seasons.

Not that I'm being ageist -- I myself am a late thirty something, and I think Jennifer Beals, at 42, is WAY hotter and sexier now than she was at 19 in her Flashdance days! -- but I can't help but wonder just how these additions will affect the key demographics of the show? I mean, is the target audience Gen X/Gen Y, or is it now more the Baby Boomers?

Plus, I have to be honest, but one of the key attractions of this show are the gorgeous hot women, regardless of their age. Jennifer Beals? Hot!!! Pam Grier? Hot!!! Rosanna Arquette? Hot!!! But Cybill Shepherd? Not so hot. There are other 50something actresses who are still quite hot -- e.g. Susan Sarandon and Goldie Hawn -- but CS is not quite in their company, I'm sorry to say (if you don't believe me you haven't seen her in those god-awful Martha Stewart movies lately!!). But then again, this show is already starting to feel like it's past its prime (after that disastrous last season), so perhaps it's only fitting that the new cast members are reflective of that sad truth. Damn, I'm gonna miss Erin Daniels more than ever, now!!!

Comments: Dude, Cybil Shepherd made out with Elvis. I think that makes her hot forever.

Comments: I really enjoyed the sitcom 'Cybill' while it lasted, before Cybill reverted to her penchant for self-sabotage. It's rumored she has this knack for ruining the dynamics of a good show, ala 'Moonlighting' and 'Cybill'. As the song says, "Watch What Happens".

Comments: Why didn't they hire her as Tina's mother? Oh no, that would make too much sense. This is like shooting fish in a barrel. I should stop...

Comments: IT's not her age but her OTT acting that makes me dread her on the show. As tina's mom I wouldn't mind but as Bette's boss - not so interested. And I too wonder who they are trying to appeal to with these types of additions.

Comments: I demand more hot young lesbians!:P But Cybill... I'm gonna have a hard time thinking sexy thoughts about the show.

Comments: I think they are casting hot, young chicks who will "bare" their souls and t and a so that will target the young demographic. I wouldn't like to see CS in a sex scene, but also do not want to see MM in such a scene. At least CS once had sex appeal; MM never did.

Comments: The addition of CS and MM brings acting firepower to the ensemble and mitigates the T&A bare spots (pun intended)...Carmen and Lara couldn't carry a scene if their (lovely) A's depended on it.

Comments: I think the show is for all of us...GenX/Y and Baby Boomers. As we all grow older (and we all do), we are still lesbians...we still love...and we enjoy the L Word!

Comments: I feel the show reaches out to all ages. I mean, Peggy ain’t no spring chicken herself, and neither is the woman that was supposed to marry Shane and Carmen; I forgot her name. Anyway, I cant even sit here and imagine Cybil lip locking another woman on the show, but the way that IC has taken it, we have to sit back and pay attention to which way the wind blows, cause she’s gonna blow it in the other direction.

Comments: I think adding CS would more credibility to the show- not all lesbians are 20-40 yrs old. The last season definately needed some help- maybe some more seasoned actresses will help the drama portion of the show. As far as the eye candy- I believe the show is so full of hotties, a lip smacking scene with CS ( who I think is still attractive) wont ditract anything from the show for me.
