Summary
#601: "Long Night's
Journey Into Day"
Kace's Episode Review Of Mass Destruction
It's time to get this final Season of The L Word underway!
Showtime Presents...well, apparently no quick review of Season 5. Okay,
fine. Be that way!
CSI-WeHo, as we have Xena: Warrior Sergeant showing up at the scene of
an
apparent crime. We have the Group Of Friends inside of Bette & Tina's
house. Sgt. Mary Beth Duffy is Xena's name here. Everyone's there, but
Jenny. Oh wait, there she is, dead on a stretcher. Some would argue this
comes about 4 Seasons too late. I'm not as mean, though.
And ROLL THAT BEAUTIFUL INTRO!!! The intro looks pretty much the same
as
last year's actually. And Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove!!!
Cha-cha-cha!!!
3 Months Earlier...it's the last part of Season 5. It's the part where
Jenny shows up and grabs the mic, doing the whole Thank You stuff. Since
I've already seen this...
*Fast Forward*
Okay, there's Jenny walking away, which is where Season 5 ended.
Onto the aftermath, minus Dionne Warwick as Shane does the melodramatic
car
chase scene with Jenny. Jenny's driving and Shane's after her and Niki's
after them. You know, if that were Cherie's vehicle, Shane would've
wrecked by now. We arrive at Tim's old house and now Jenny is becoming
Tim, locking Shane out. And there's Niki. Yay.
Alice and Tasha arrive at Alice's and Tasha's not happy. I'm sensing
a
theme. Helena calls Alice on the phone when Tasha's looking to talk and
Alice has to cut Helena off on the phone. Tasha begins packin' up her
stuff (there's U-Hauling...is this Un-Hauling?). Alice says she changes
her mind (about breaking up). And then Jenny calls, but Alice doesn't
answer so the argument can continue. Alice doesn't wanna break up with
Tasha. What made Alice change her mind was seeing Shane going down on
Niki...after looking to take Shane's advice (that whole, "what's
the
point," thing). Tasha's not amused.
Jenny's not letting Shane in the house.
Bette and Tina are home with the underaged babysitter. Babysitter goes
home and Baby Angelica's sick. Tina's not happy with William over the
Le
Girls film ending change. Bette encourages Tina to call William even
though it's 1:30 AM. They look out the window to see Shane being locked
out next door. Bette feels bad for Shane. Tina feels bad for Jenny.
Flashbacks abound for the happy couple and they decide not to talk about
it.
Next door, Niki's able to get in through the back door and let's Shane
in.
Niki seems a bit self-absorbed. Shane apologizes for what baseball fans
might refer to as, "Manny Being Manny." Jenny, who's never done
a thing
wrong in her life begins hurling inanimate objects at Shane and Niki and
tells them to leave.
Back at Alice's, Max tries to message Alice on the computer, but Alice
shuts the laptop off. Alice and Tasha are on the verge of breaking up
and
since Lara's not around, she can't be blamed for this one! Joy! Alice
does the one thing she can make Tasha do, which is smile and be all
turn-on-ish. They kiss, but Tasha wants something more than just the
joyful physical stuff.
Niki offers Shane to move in with her and Shane says no. Tim...er...Jenny
tosses some of Shane's stuff out of the house. Somewhere, I'd like to
think Marina's having a laugh.
Bette and Tina check on Baby Angelica and Shane knocks, wanting to come
in.
Shane explains the Phyllis treatening her over Mollie thing to Bette.
Shane admits her love for Mollie. Not that it matters or anything.
Battlelines begin to slowly draw between the Jenny and Shane factions
with
Tina taking exception to Shane's cheating about. Bette explains the Le
Girls Ending Change to Shane while Tina finally calls William. We don't
hear William, but thanks to Tina we get an idea that he's ambivalent about
not being interrupted while in the middle of a good night's sleep and
hangs
up on her.
Meanwhile at SheBar, the new ladies in charge, Kit and Helena are looking
to rename the place by combining their names, 'ship style. They come up
with Hit. Hit! The Hit Club! "it's a Hit!!!" Hit Club...we have
a
winner.
Tina lectures Shane, with Bette taking up for Shane. Battlelines. Tina
goes there with Bette in terms of Bette's past indiscretions. Angelica's
sick and needing Mommies B and T. Shane leaves before things get worse.
Alice explains her talks with that Clea girl and the attraction and so
forth. She also makes it clear that they didn't do anything bad. And then
this...
Alice says she deserves credit for not doing what, "every other
lesbian
would do," and cheat.
Yeah, lesbians cheat!!! ALL OF YOU, CHEATERS!!! What straight man wrote
that piece of dialogue???
Shane arrives needing a place to crash, but it's at a bad time. Tasha
leaves and Alice gives chase. Shane is bewildered. Alice drives after
Tasha.
Bette has trouble with the thermometer thingy. Angelica's 4 and a half
years old, further making me happy that I gave up on that L Word Timeline
Project now. Angelica apparently has a fever of 104 so it's off to the
hospital.
Mollie arrives at Jenny's. Jenny explains to Mollie how Shane is. Jenny
then informs Mollie that Shane is having sex with Niki, even insinuating
that they may have done something on the Pink Ride (Episode 510, I think).
Thanks for playing, Mollie. Enjoy the Home Edition and your year's supply
of Rice-A-Roni! Mollie leaves a note for Jenny to give to Shane and
disappears into the abyss, or the Land of the Dead Marios. Jenny decides
to read the note, which I guess she likes. She takes the note and flings
up in the attic.
Onto the hospital and for some reason, I'm reminded of Queer As Folk
with
this scene. Bette takes exception to the beauracracy involved in hospital
stuff.
Shane is...somewhere and Niki arrives with some unnamed and irrelevant
entourage. Personally, I think Shane and Niki are perfect for each other,
so naturally it won't happen. Jenny texts Niki to come over. Shane
encourages her to go to her doom. It's been quite a night for Niki.
Now leaving the hospital as it turns out that Bette's not too good with
digital thermometers. And now the Happy Couple have one of those Awww
moments with a little kiss.
Onto Papi's house. Yes...that Papi. Back from the Land of the Dead Marios
(for now). Alice and Tasha enter. But wait, it gets better! It's 3 AM
and Gabby is in the house. No, really. Gabby Deveaux and Papi, makin'
with the nice-nice. All things considered, it had to happen sooner or
later. Those two together could link the entire Chart.
Niki arrives at Jenny's and it's onto the makin' with the lovin'! Niki
tries to explain herself and apologize, but this ain't about that. This
is
Jenny turning more into Tim (in a sense). It's a Jenny Powerscrew.
Shane's still at...wherever by herself.
Alice isn't too good with understanding culture and Tasha takes exception.
Papi and Gabby are there now and Gabby explains pleasantries with Alice.
For Alice, this has to a lower threshold of Hell or something. Alice
doesn't want to lose Tasha, while Gabby and Papi don't want to...be in
the
scene or something.
Helena runs things at Hit Club and Shane arrives. Shane has a friend
to
confine in for the moment, at least.
Bette and Tina are back home and Bette wants to apologize. This time
for
defending Shane and possibly sending the wrong message. Bette makes a
promise to Tina to share her values about family and faithfulness and
commitment...and that she'll never cheat on her again. Tina seems touched.
Alice and Tasha sit together and laugh at the crazy noises emanating
from
Papi's bedroom as Lesbians X and S (XS...Excess...get it? ...Anyway).
And
they agree to go back home and continue trying to work things out.
While Papi and Gabby have all kinds of crazy sex, Jenny and Niki have
their
own.
Back at Hit Club, which apparently doesn't close 'til like...5 AM or
something let Shane know that it's time to go. Shane's tired. Kit and
Helena help her up and out.
Tasha decides to use the sofa bed instead of Alice's. Alice, lookin'
all
cutesy in her glasses hops on the bed...and pulls Tasha in with her. We
get some of Tasha's adorable laughing. They're just gonna cuddle and
sleep. No sex 'til they know they can make it as a couple. Alice isn't
serious enough, unlike Tasha. Alice tries being serious, but they both
laugh. Have I ever mentioned how much I love Tasha's laugh?
Helena closes up shop for the evening.
Shane finally has a place to crash! And she feels terrible about her
actions. Kit, the ever trusting and reliable friend she's always been
is
there for her. Kit wants Shane to fight for Jenny's friendship. Good luck
with that, 'cause if the opening scene is any indication, she's got three
months (which is three months less than what time there was for
Dana...granted NOBODY wanted to see her die, but whatever).
Sunrise, as Niki and Jenny wake up. Niki wants to cling onto a
relationship with someone, but she may've shot that out of commision with
past actions. Niki turns into Season 1 Jenny and Jenny turns into Tim
(flash back to that one scene in Season 1 where Tim takes, "a giant
step
back"). Jenny explains that the, "broken my heart," line
wasn't aimed at
Niki and then puts her down very coldly. Jenny then tells Niki it's time
for her to go. Damn, girl.
The Planet!
The Group Of Friends are all there, including Shane who's just arrived.
She's going to go fight for Jenny, but Jenny's not gonna sit at the same
table. Battlelines are drawn with Tina and Tasha joining Jenny at a table
and Shane, with Bette and Alice at the other. Kit and Helena are caught
in
the middle of the crossfire and it takes vocal exception.
And so, The L Word Final Crisis begins.
Aaaaaaaaaaand roll the credits!
I felt as if this episode should've been named after the Rookie Of The
Year
song, "Liars And Battlelines," because it certainly fits. We'll
see what
happens next week. In the meantime...let's hope lesbians have learned
not
to be a bunch of cheaters or whatever. The things I learn watching this
program, I tell ya. Anyway... Ta.
