Episode Summary 409: Lacy Lilting Lyrics

Kace Evers Episode Review Of Mass Destruction

"She's my, she's my 409..."

Previously, Kit freaked out on Angus and went out with Papi, Gabriel
(bastard) came back, we were introduced to Grace The Intern, we had
anti-war slogans just to annoy Tasha, Bette/Jodi melodrama, Lez Girls crap
with Jenny and Tina.

Showtime Presents...MARINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOO HOO!!!!! This doesn't
make much sense 'til later as it's Marina performing with some gals. Nice
top hat, Marina...where's Claude?

Our resident opening theme, which even for those of us who like it is
beginning to have a numbing effect at this point. It's funny, Night Court
had the same opening theme for years and I never grew tired or numb of it.
"And LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE!!!!"

We're outside at some studio with Tina and Jenny on their way to talk to
some director guy. And for the sake of remembering who these people are,
they'll all be "that director guy." That Director Guy #1 wants real sex.
The constant zoom-ins and zoom-outs give me that nauseating feeling, like
watching Arrested Development. I wanna pay attention to the dialogue, but
I keep thinking the camera guy's gonna fall down from being drunk.

Onto CU, where Bette arrives in the parking lot and sees Jodi making nice
nice with some blonde gal. Is that Nadya? Nope...someone else. Woulda
been hilarious if that had been Nadya. Instead it's Amy or Aimee or Eh-me.
Anyway, she leaves off for the Land of the Dead Marios 2 seconds after
existing so Jodi can talk to Bette. Bette politely declines.

The Planet as Kit's wondering why Angus is around. He's apparently helping
out according to the hired help. KIt steps inside her office to see it
overrun by a florist shop. All have apologies from Angus. Kit's got that
bottle and is ready to hit it. Papi arrives with flowers of her own. Yes,
Papi someone beat ya to it. Papi and Kit thank each other for the other
night. Have to wonder if treating someone with respect is letting them
obliterate their sobriety for a night of almost sex. Kit questions why
Papi has to be like she is and tries reaching out to her. Paging Ivan...
Ivan? Get to the Planet...quickly! I believe Papi is smitten, 'cause
again, this is what I wanna see on my screen...Christ...

Alice's place and awwww they look so nice together. Alice/Tasha, naked in
an afterglow. Alice asks who Lisa is. Tasha apparently said her name in
her sleep. She was a straight girl who served with Tasha in Iraq. Not to
be confused with the other Lisas from Season 1. Helena arrives, explaining
her in-between episodes fun. Speaking of cute together, how 'bout
Helacious? Helena's getting good at this poker thing, but Alice calls her
out on Helena getting screwed over on getting her side of the cut of the
winnings. Papi's outside.

Shane/Page now as they're next door at Bette's swimming pool. It's
explained that Gabriel (bastard) is trying to get Carla into a hospital.
Shay and Jared are hanging out.

Papi arrives at Alice's, hanging out with Papi and Helena. Papi explains
Helena being whipped. Good analogy, but Tasha notices that Papi is
smitten. "Who's the girl?" Ehhhh boy... Doorbell rings and Alice
answers...it's Leonard. Oh, this oughtta be interesting.

Gabriel (bastard) arrives to bring forth doom and destruction. He's come
to take Shay home. We get the Family MacCutcheon stuff. Gabriel makes it
clear that he's taking Shay home like now. Shane objects, but Gabriel
explains legal stuff to Shane, scaring her. Oh, just call Joyce Wischnia,
she'd eat this guy for lunch. The man's evil. Paige arrives to save the
day, but it falls short. Gabriel (bastard) pretty much wins, which sucks.

Leonard goes into the belly of the beast, but is really nice about it. He
formally introduces himself and this has to be uncomfortable involved. For
those just tuning in, Phyllis is Lenoard's wife who had her first lesbian
experience with Alice. Can't blame Leonard for his feelings here. Too bad
Papi, Tasha and Helena weren't around in Season 1...they coulda come in
handy when Tim's world fell apart in similar fashion.

Onto CU, as we get art debates. Jodi begins to speak and Bette interrupts
ready to move on to another name. Phyllis is there now. Bette's going
alpha! Phyllis calls in for a break in the action. Bette leaves for break
and Jodi follows her. Bette doesn't want to eat with Jodi. Bette (she's
jealous, you know) asks about Jodi/Amy. Bette's phone rings, giving Jodi
ample opportunity to walk away. Phyllis walks over to Bette as she gets
her text message from Alice about Leonard being there.

Jenny's house now, as Paige tries to talk some sense into Shane about not
giving up the fight, but it's kinda Shane's nature to give up. Paige
offers an ear to Shane if she wants to talk and leaves with Jared.

Leonard's with the gals at Alice's and tries figuring out Phyllis's choice
in attraction. He brings up the notion of lesbians being trendy, which may
or may not be true, depending on who you ask (we could always ask Anne
Hesch). It's guaranteed that Phyllis isn't trying to be cool. Leonard,
poor guy just doesn't understand and thankfully the friends are there to
explain it. This is like our education segment of the show. "What did you
do to her Alice?" Again, I can understand Lenoard's stance here. Alice
apologizes to Lenoard for the emotional inconvenience. Papi makes it clear
that Phyllis was gonna do this with someone eventually and it just so
happened to be there for him. Tasha gives some sound advice to Leonard
about letting go. Now the doorbell rings again...and it's Phyllis. Alice
goes out of the apartment to talk with Phyllis real quick. She apologizes
to Phyllis for the abrupt ending to the relationship/affair. Phyllis
apologizes to Alice for suffocating her with all the attention and I'm
suddenly having Season 2 flashbacks of Alice/Dana. They hug and decide to
be friends...and Alice locked herself out. Ahahahahaha...

Jodi's working on whatever and Bette shows up. We get more melodrama over
Amy or Aimee or Eh-me. Jodi explains to Bette about having sex with Amy,
but she thought of Bette 'cause she really really likes her...and now it's
Season 2 flashbacks of the whole Bette/Tina Vs Bette/Candace stuff.
Whatever happened to Candace anyway? Bette refers to Jodi as a, "fucking
heartbreaker."

Onto Max's line of work, years later in the episode...not that it'll stop
the Anti-Max people from saying he got too much screentime, but whatever.
Max is on the way and there he is. He was taking care of a client. That
isn't good enough for Max's boss who has suddenly become an asshole. Well
that's quite a turnaround. The Boss's Daughter, Brooke is referenced as
Max appears uneasy.

Jenny and Tina now give us more of this Arrested Development drunk camera
zooming shit. That Director Guy #2 sees Lez Girls as a romantic comedy.
I'm sure it wasn't a comedy for Tim. Jenny doesn't want a romantic comedy.
Jenny in her own annoying way let's That Director Guy #2 know and she
manages to screw up the word, "jewelry." Sometimes I feel like the only
person who knows how to say that word and I don't even like jewelry.

Phyllis is here to take Leonard home. The girls take up Phyllis, but also
take up with Leonard. Awwww... I think Leonard's my personal hero now.
The Krolls leave.

Gabriel (bastard) is with Shay and ready to take him home. Shane gives
Shay the gift of a product shot. "Piece Of My Heart" by Big Brother &
Holding Co.'s on it, but they just say, "Janis Joplin." Anyway, Gabriel
(bastard) takes Shay and leaves, but not before Shane gets to say 'bye.
They leave Shane behind and Shane breaks down. Usually the breakdowns are
reserved for the end of the 10th episode in the Season. This is their way
of changing things up a bit, I guess.

Max and Grace hang out as we get Max's commenting on his hellish worklife.
The phone rings! Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.... Oh, whoops...went Rent there
for a sec. Maggie, Max's sister is the one calling. It's apparently bad
news. Turns out Max's mom just died after being sick and Max didn't even
know about the whole sick thing. Maggie doesn't want Max going to the
funeral. Grace encourages Max to go and offers to go with him for moral
support. Well, it is The L Word and someone has to die every year, but at
least they're keeping it reserved for non-screen characters now...and old
dogs, can't forget them. This is only Max's second scene (of 2) scenes in
the show and again, the Anti-Maxers probably see this as too much.

Alice, Helena, Papi and Tasha hang out. We get a cellphone vibrating in
bed...oh I'm not even gonna go there. It's Catherine calling Helena,
summoning her. Helena's off and the others tease her. Another cellphone
vibrates in bed...well no wonder they're all in a good mood. Shane calls
and something nice is reinforced as Shane doesn't feel too good, explaining
that Shay left. Shane needs to talk to someone and she calls on Alice
which makes sense. Shane looks up and sees her underwear billboard.

The Planet as they're closing up sho for the evening. Kit's hung over and
Angus wants to talk to her, so Kit decides to get everyone's attention so
Angus can address everyone. Looks like Kit's drinking a tall order of
Urine Sample. Angus apologizes in front of everyone, calling himself an
idiot. Angus loves her and says he's gonna stick around, so don't be
surprised if he's not around anymore after this. Kit leaves.

It's late in the evening and Jodi's hard at work. Does she not have a
house? Bette's there with her and they both have power tools (shut up,
Kace, shut up, Kace, shut up...SHUT IT). They talk and appear to be
getting along again. Bette wants to introduce Jodi to the friends. Jodi
wants to know if she can cook. Lara can cook...I miss Lara. And now I'm a
sad puppy again. I hope you're satisfied, L Word people! They laugh, they
make out, we go to the next scene.

Some theater as Tina and Jenny arrive to talk to That Director Guy #3.
"What do you like about lesbians?" That's like asking why you like a
favorite song. Regular lesbian movies have been done a bunch of times.
Wait...they have? Let's see, Loving Annabelle and...a few others. Imagine
Me & You...But I'm A Cheerleader. Okay, there are a few, but not a
million. This Director wants a musical. Jenny's all into it, 'til she
sees Marina on stage to perform a portion of the would be musical. Marina
performs as Karina. Perfect!!! The Ditty Bops are introduced and they
perform. Marina has to have the greatest sense of humor of any character
ever on this show. Nice to see Marina getting the last laugh here, but
where's Claude? Jenny claps.

Alice and Shane hang out at the billboard. Alice is there for her to
encourage Shane onward. Alice has spraypaint and they decide to mess up
the underwear billboard ad. Have to admit, I was half expecting "NWO" to
be spraypainted there, since it's black spraypaint. Alice and Shane go to
town on the billboard and laugh. After all that, we get a happy enough
ending for the episode.

And there ya have it. "There are only three episodes left of The L Word."
Okay, that's a little damn ominous and considering the constant Tudors
pimps and the fact that the next episode's gonna be delayed by 15 minutes
for Al The Internet Inventor Gore's scare piece promo...it's like Showtime
doesn't even care about losing some 300,000 customers anymore.

SPOILER VERSION:

Episode 4.10, Little Boy Blue

Catherine gets a hot tip on a horse and decides to bet all of Helena's winnings on "The Pink" to win.

Alice finds she may have investors in her website blog--that is until she realizes that there are unwelcome and complicted strings attached to Jenny's involvement.

Max takes newfound friend Grace (Simone Bailey) home to attend his mother's funeral where she faces off against her estranged family who don't know about Moira/Max's transitioning.

In typical Bette style, a simple dinner party to introduce Jodi to the rest of the girls becomes a high stress catered affair where Bette's Type A personality rears its ugy head, much to Jodi's disgust.

Kit bing drinks while Angus desperately tries to make her see how sorry he is.

Papi considers expanding her entrepeneurial streak by going into the restaurant business. Tasha realizes that Kit is the object of Papi's affection.

A lonely Shane get some cheering up from Paige and Jared.
