Kace Evers Episode Review Of Mass Destruction

#406: Luck Be a Lady

Holy crap that was fun!
____________________________________________

Previously on The L Word, Alice no longer felt comfortable doing stuff with
Phyllis, Jenny went on her big adventure about Lindsay, Bette almost kissed
Jodie, Tasha told Alice they could go for a motorcycle ride, Angus cheated
on Kit and Tina noticed and told Bette, Shane got to know Paige...and
stuff...

Showtime Presents, "You're Looking Very Shane." I used a line similar to
that in my FanFic...I KNEW they read me! Shane's on a billboard and feels
embarrassed as people talk to her about a big get-together...it'll make
sense as we go along, don't worry.

Opening credits as the motif appears complete now. "And
LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE!!!!"

And now, one of the greatest sequences in TV history as we get the Phone
Montage. Shane gets a call from Alice, who talks about Phyllis and Alice
is worried. Shane's got her own problems and mentions the Hollywood Party
and Alice wants to be Shane's date for the get-together. Shane doesn't
want anyone else to know. Alice is interrupted by a call from Bette.
Bette's unhappy about the Alice/Phyllis situation and breakup and now has
to work harder, but Alice wants Bette to go to the Hollywood Party. Hey,
James! Phyllis on Line 1. Phyllis is wondering if Bette's heard from
Alice. "No." As Bette and Phyllis talk, Alice gets a call from Helena who
is in total slob mode. Awww. Alice invites Helena to the party. Alice
and Shane are now on the phone together and Shane's upset about who's
going. Papi calls Alice and Papi's already going and mentions bringing
Tasha and according to Papi, Tasha thinks Alice is cute. They mention a
gambling thing afterwards and Papi says she'll teach Alice how to play.
Now we have Papi calling Tasha to let her know she's going to the party.
Tasha doesn't want the love connection thing. Back to CU where Jodie and
Tom walk into Bette's office. They talk about the almost kiss. Jodie
would've gone for it, but doesn't mind pretending it never happened.
Phyllis on Line 1 as Jodie and Tom leave. Phyllis mentions Alice meeting
Leonard and how things would've been better had that not happened. Now
Alice calls back in and Phyllis is on hold. Bette wants Alice to RE-break
up with Phyllis. Jenny calls Alice and I guess they're getting along.
Jenny's at the Planet and as Shane walks in, Jenny's invited to the
Hollywood Party get-together to see Shane in her underwear on a billboard.

*pause*

"Oh my God, it's the Unibomber."

*unpause*

Jenny brings it up Shane and Shane gets the phone telling Alice she's gonna
kill her. Meanwhile, just a couple of feet away, Kit calls Bette and
Bette's just gonna kill herself. Bette passes along a message to Kit who
passes it along to Alice and we get back to who's all going to the party,
"a Roll The Dice," premiere thingy. Lindsay calls for "Debbie" and Shane
tells her to hold. Shane hangs up on Alice and hands the phone to
Jenny...er..."Debbie." The game of deception continues. "Debbie" is
thinking about getting a puppy and Lindsay can't tag along, 'cause she and
Stacy (remember her?) are together at the moment and are about to go on a
vacation thing. If they have it cancelled, it's over! Jenny has an evil
plan. She borrows another guy's phone and uses the name, "Sophie Mancuso"
to call Stacy, posing as someone from some magazine to have her arrive at
the party to cover it. Stacy torpedos her relationship in the process, it
seems. Back to Bette and Phyllis as the bongo player's getting tired.
Alice calls Bette and now Phyllis calls Alice...and gets Alice's voicemail.
Phyllis wants to work it out...she's in love with her. Hoo boy. Bette
gets back with Phyllis, but she's busy leaving a message. And now Tina
walks in. They argue about Angelica being enrolled to wherever. Bette and
Tina argue over who decided what and Bette's trying to go Alpha again.
Cute when used on Nadya...not so cute when tried on Tina. James mentions
Phyllis being on Line 1 and Bette's not in the mood for the phone anymore.
Thus ending one of the greatest sequences of all time.

*pause*

STANDING OVATION!!! 11 of the best minutes in the history of The L Word at
the very least...and with no sex or malice or death invovled, either.

*unpause*

Alice's apartment, as Helena and Alice prepares for gambling. Papi enters
with a entourage, including Tasha. Papi uses Shane's "Liquor in the front"
line from Season 1, but Alice has heard it before. So much for
originality. Papi's gonna teach Helena how to play. Some girl shows up
and she's in love with Papi. Alice talks with Tasha for a second and now
we're all at the table.

Onto the Planet as Kit and Bette are on the phone. Bette wants a site
about sign language. Bette asks Kit how the relationship between her and
Angus is as Angus arrives with Angelica. Bette'll call Kit back. Bette
asks about the album...then about Hazel...then about that thing with Hazel
and Angus knows where this is going. He used to be so cool. He made a
mistake and brings up Bette's past. Angus wants to fix it, which Bette can
relate to (Candace!!!). Bette has to get back to work and Angus departs
with the baby.

Back to gambling and it's all about deception. With that in mind, we have
Papi giving lessons that turn to be lessons in life as shown by Jenny
"Debbie" who talks with Lindsay. Jenny almost blows her cover with the,
"vagina wig," line but covers for it. Lindsay invites Jenny to go with her
to the vacation thingy. The lesson continues as Max talks with Megan
(whoever that is) about Megan being passed over for some promotion in favor
of some guy. Max says Megan should sue. Ehhh... Poker and Life aren't
for the wussy player, according to Papi as Bette learns signlanguage in 20
seconds or less (or her money back), then goes to say hi to Jodie who's
with her power tools. Bette talks to Jodie through signlanguage. Jodie
scares her. I don't speak sign, so I'm a little lost here, but it's
apparently about feelings...nothing more than feeelings. They talk about
fear, which is a feeling. Bette doesn't wanna die right now, which goes
against her wanting to kill herself...but anyway. "Do you want to try it,"
Jodie asks. She kisses Bette's hand and Bette's all emotional and crying.
Bette kisses Jodie's hand...and then onto to the lips. Looks like they're
gonna give it a shot. They make out...and make out some more. Clothes are
starting to be removed. This goes on for a while as it leads to some sex
between the two.

Back to gambling with Alice, Papi, Shane, Tasha and that girl in love with
Papi's gonna go outside for a smoke. They're having a good time...not as
good a time as Bette and Jodie right now, but a good time nonetheless.
Some other girl arrives and sits in Papi's lap. And the first girl walks
back in. Suddenly a Jerry Springer Show breaks out and Tasha breaks it up,
leading somehow to Alice getting knocked down.

Tasha takes Alice to the hospital and Alice has a black eye. Alice jokes
around a bit and makes a joking comment about Iraq...aaaaand here we go!
Tasha served in Iraq. Tasha's in the National Guard and served in Iraq.
We get a political debate out of nowhere and Alice goes over the line. She
apologizes. Tasha asks about Alice's eye and it hurts. Tasha laughs.

Max walks in on a rant about Megan possibly suing. Boy, things go fast
don't they?

Shane drops Shay off at Paige's. Shane doesn't want to do anything right
now in terms of sex or relationship, which makes sense all things
considered. Shane doesn't trust herself not to hurt Paige, which again
makes sense. Paige offers friendship and Shane likes that idea. And Shane
takes off in her limo.

Stacy arrives and she thinks she's supposed to interview Shane. She has no
idea.

Back to Max's workplace as Max talks the Boss and goes over Mitch (the guy
ranting earlier) and his history of sexual discrimination against females.
Max mentions Mitch discriminated against him...when he was a her. The Boss
appears confused.

Back to the Hollywood Party as Shane arrives with Alice and Helena. Shane
has to pose for photographers along with two really sick (in a bad way)
looking models. Shane's really uncomfortable. Stacy arrives trying to get
the interview the hardway and is rushed out by security. Shane recognizes
her as the Vagina Wig. Hahahaha!!!

Lindsay and "Debbie" chat and wonders in a way if this is a good idea.
Lindsay's having mixed emotions here and it's ripping her apart as she
talks with "Debbie" and feels guilty, because she wants to kiss her.
"Debbie" reaches in and brings forth the kiss. Off goes Lindsay's shirt
and remember, Lindsay think it's over between her and Stacy at this
point...but still needs to break it off officially and pulls back from the
kissing. After she breaks up with her officially, THEN she'll happily do
things with "Debbie." "Debbie" finally has a moment of clarity and begins
to admit that she's done something. "There's no such thing as too late,"
according to Lindsay. Oh, you'd be surprised. Stacy arrives and Lindsay
scrambles to get her shirt. Stacy is here and now the game is ended with
Jenny's exposed. Jenny explains her reasons, screwed up as they are. As
it turns out, Lindsay survived a grueling ordeal, just like Jenny. But
turned out to be a good person...unlike Jenny. Stacy and Lindsay have
things to work out and they leave.

Over to the Hollywood Party thing and whatever movie they watched sucked.
Was it Zombies On A Train? Shane is introduced to some gal, but the phone
rings. Shane talks with Paige and Shay had a bad dream. Shane's got her
priorities in order here. Paiges wants Shane to have a good time and not
worry.

Bette and Jodie have dinner. They go over relationship history. The baby
is mentioned and Jodie..."doesn't like kids." Oooooo, holy dealbreaker,
Batman! Jodie explains her reasons and Bette's less than thrilled. Bette
asks for the cheque and it appears it's all over.

Back to the party and Alice talks with Tasha. Tasha goes over her history
with Papi. They hooked up for one night and the sex was bad. They went on
to become best friends. Kinda like Shane and Alice, I guess...but without
the sexual encounter at the beginning (so far as we know, anyway).

Helena runs into a couple of people named Miles and Catherine. Miles and
Catherine bet on everything, which is rather annoying. These are the
people that make Earth a miserable place. Catherine invites Helena to a
game of poker.

Bette arrives home and Angus waits her, doing the babysitting gig. Angus
broke it off with Hazel, I guess in the same off camera fashion that Tim
did with Trish in Season 1 (am I the only one who remembers that?).

We get a montage of pepole stuck in thought about their lives, including
Bette, Jodie, Shane and Jenny. All feel bad about something as Catherine,
Helena and a bunch of rich people show up at a theatre. Papi ain't playing
this one, 'cause of the final rule. "House always wins."

Shane arrives at Paige's, tired of the party and wanting something normal.
There's meatloaf in the kitchen..."like a bat out of HELLLLLLLLLL!!!!"
That girl that Shane passed up on earlier is now eyeing Papi as Helena is
starting to win big. "Luck Be A Lady" is playing, but I'm thinking of "The
Gambler" by Kenny Rogers and the advice there. Tasha and Alice walk
together, interrupted by Phyllis. Phyllis wants a divorce from her
husband, so he knows. Tasha doesn't do drama and leaves Alice behind.
Jodie arrives at Bette and apologizes for her comments earlier. Jodie
wants to try again and Bette invites her in. Helena makes her bet and
realises she's screwed. Catherine wins. "FINISH HER!"

Helena tries to explain her situation to Catherine, but Catherine already
knows since she's already talked with Peggy. Catherine gives Helena a key
to her suite and now Helena gets to be Catherine's bitch to pay off the
debt.

And that's that.

Holy crap that was fun! We're now at the halfway as of the end of this
episode. the second half oughtta be even more fun.
