Episode
Summary
by Pam Cole
Nice introductory scene between Dana and Alice that takes place seven-and-a-half
months ago when they broke up. (Are the writers going to start telling
us what happened during that hiatus?) Aching performance by Leisha Hailey--haven't
we all felt this way at some time? Alice has one line--"I don't think
that I can live without you." Dana takes Alice in her arms and kisses
her one last time. Then she leaves. We don't get the explanation, but
we sure get the drift.
Bette and Tina are waking up when Bette moves closer to Tina and puts
her arm around her--just an old habit. Then she wakes up and apologizes
for touching Tina. Tina says she doesn't mind, but Bette says that obviously
she does. She tells Tina to move out of the house while Bette is gone.
Bette is going to a Buddhist meditation retreat by herself for ten days.
Tina is only concerned about where she would go live if she moved out.
They compromise on Tina moving into the guest room until they figure it
out. Just like that, with no tears, no yelling, not five minutes of discussion
(that we can see anyway), and no breakup sex like season one, they let
go of the relationship.
Later as Bette is preparing to get into the cab to leave for the airport,
she and Tina have a few more words about the end of their relationship.
Bette accuses Tina of not loving her and Tina doesn't even try to deny
it. Suddenly, the adoption social worker rolls up in her wheelchair and
interrupts their discussion. She asks some pointed questions about the
status of their relationship. Bette and Tina both try to cover up their
problems in front of the social worker and Bette actually kisses (!) Tina
goodbye when she leaves. FIRST SEASON 3 KISS! (Is it the last?) After
Bette leaves, the social worker tries to convince Tina not to go through
with the adoption.
Carmen and Shane are asleep in bed when Carmen has a bad dream. Shane
wakes her up and Carmen says that she was dreaming that Shane gave Cherie
Jaffee the same tattoo that Carmen and Shane share. Even though it is
a dream, Carmen gets really angry about it and yells at Shane. She is
mad at Shane about this through most of the episode. Finally, Carmen listens
as Shane apologizes, again, for her night with Cherie Jaffee, and says
that she is sorry that it is causing Carmen to have nightmares.
Kit and Angus ride a motorcycle to a music studio where some of Kit's
old music pals (Betty band members and musician Nona Hendryx) are coming
to help her cut her new album. She is very nervous about it. At the studio,
Angus tries to take over the recording session and put Kit more front
and center in the music. He ruffles everyone's feathers, including Kit's.
Later, they have it out in the sound room (where everyone can hear them)
and Angus proposes to Kit in front of everyone.
Helena, Dylan, Tina, and Angelica come to the studio to watch the recording
session. Helena and Dylan are so hot for each other that they can't keep
their hands off of each other. Finally, they leave the session and go
to Helena's house, where they have a full on lovemaking session and spend
the night together. This scene proves that neither of these hot actresses
has a no-nudity clause in her contract.
Dana's hair begins to fall out because of the chemotherapy treatments
and Alice convinces her to try on several wigs she has bought. All the
wigs look stupid so Dana goes to WAX and lets Shane shave her head. Shane
and Alice give themselves some pretty funny hairdos to draw attention
away from Dana's bald head. Then, Dana, Shane, and Alice go to the studio
session too, and show everybody their new hairdos.
Max (the transgender formerly known as Moira) and Jenny visit a doctor
to find out about gender reassignment surgery, where Max learns that his
health insurance won't cover the $7500 cost. Jenny offers to pay for it
but Max won't let her. The doctor suggests that they have a fundraising
party to raise the money, like other transgenedered people have done.
Jenny likes the idea and they decide to do it.
The doctor gives Max a kit of some kind that includes items to help her
make the transition, including a "Pissin' Passin' Packer," a
device that Max wears like a dildo and uses to pee through.
Later, Jenny tells Max that she is writing a story about his transition,
and Max becomes violent and tries to take Jenny's computer away from her.
The fight wakes up Shane (sleeping on the couch in the doghouse) and Carmen.
They both come out to see what is going on and Max apologizes, saying
that the testosterone is making him more aggressive.
A very poignant scene between Dana and Alice, who now takes care of Dana.
Alice draws Dana a bath and then leaves the bathroom to give Dana privacy.
But Dana can't unhook her own bra and calls Alice back to help her. Dana
then reveals the results of her mastectomy to Alice--she wants Alice to
see it. Alice is shocked but she takes Dana in her arms and tells her
that she is beautiful.
Helena takes the whole gang and Dana on her private jet to a women's
basketball game in San Jose. Dana is apparently a big fan of the San Jose
Lightning team. At the game, Max takes a chance on going into the men's
room to use the restroom with his new Pissin' Passin' Packer, which works
like a charm. Max bumps into Dana as he comes out of the men's room and
he escorts Dana (who is trying to hide from fans) into the game. Dana
doesn't want to be recognized by anyone, but as she walks into the game,
a spotlight shines on her, and her presence is announced over the loudspeaker
and the scoreboard video display. She is uncomfortable and asks Max to
get her out of there, but Max convinces her to stay by saying that this
more for the gang than for Alice.
The episode ends with Kit singing in the studio, Tina sitting alone in
her bedroom, Bette walking and meditating at the retreat, and Dana being
applauded at the basketball game while the gang watches her.

The Post-Lara Era Part II begins.
Tracy Bonham - Whether Your Fall. Plays during the flashback sequence
that gives us the answer to the question, "Just how did Alice and
Dana break up?" Now we know...and knowing's half the battle. GI JOOOOEEE!!!!!
*thumbs up* I think this episode, as a result of this scene provides for
fastest time it took for some fans to start bawling, if some of the comments
I've read online are any indication.
Scarling - Bummer. And we get off to a rocketing start to the
present with Angus The Mangus Manny Dude taking Kit for a motorcycle ride.
Wow, that Nanny job must pay pretty good.
Numchucks - Get In The Van. Aaaand we're at the Wax! Alice arrives
with Dana for the life altering shave. The song's not bad. Meanwhile,
there's sort of a similarity between this moment and Dana's makeover courtesy
of Shane back in Season 1.
Note: Amy Ziff rocks the cello, bay-bee!
Telepopmusik - Don't Look Back. Helena and Dylan begin makin'
with the lovin'. I feel dirty just watching this.
Go Betty Go - C'Mon. We arrive at General Motors Place which has
apparently been moved from Vancouver to San Jose.
DJ Revolution - Neckbreakin'. Maxxxxxxxxx "whips it out"
in the bahtroom and violates Rule #1 of the Men's Public Restroom!!!!
NEVER LOOK BELOW THE INVISIBLE LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!!
Dana and Maxxxxxxx also do some bonding before Dana's surprised to be
announced as a special guest at the game.
Nona Hendryx, Pam Grier & BETTY - Transformation. Played in
various stages throughout the episode, though in the preperation process
and then finally played and performed to end the show. What better way
to cover a Nona song than to have Nona take part?
Some fun stuff this week.
