 Episode Summary

#302: "LOST WEEKEND "

by Pam Cole

Apparently, the title of this episode refers to a 1945 movie, The Lost Weekend, starring Ray Milland, which won an Oscar for Best Picture in 1945. The 1945 film shows an alcoholic on a drinking binge and how it effects his life.

The random act from episode one continues, as we see Teri from the previous random act walking through the San Francisco Castro district in 1979, looking for lesbian sex.

Jenny and Moira start their road trip to Los Angeles from Skokie. Jenny finds a tazer gun, some kind of drugs, and a razor blade in the glove compartment. She puts the gun back but looks longingly at the razor blade. She is also really excited about the drugs.

Billie Blaikie (Alan Cumming), a flamboyant gay male party promoter starts working at The Planet as Kit's new manager.

Alice goes to love addicts anonymous to try and get over Dana. Her new best friend, Helena, hires a lesbian cleaning service to clean up Alice's apartment. They find her "Dana Shrine," complete with life-size cutout of Dana and try to get rid of it. Alice begs them to let her keep the cutout. She does gather up all the sex toys that she and Dana used, and takes them to The Planet where she gives them to Dana and Lara. (There were lots of toys.)

Later, Alice overhears the gang at The Planet discussing Angelica's six-month birthday party and mistakenly thinks they are planning a surprise birthday part for her. Alice insists that Helena also be invited to Angelica's party, as her guest. Bette reluctantly agrees.

Jenny says she doesn't want to be Moira's girlfriend, but she does go down on her in the car while Moira is driving. Later they stop at a gas station to use the bathroom and a girl in the bathroom mistakes Moira for a boy and yells at her to get out. Moira tells her she is a girl. Then in the parking lot, the girl and her friends start calling Moira a faggot and Jenny gets angry, instead of just driving away. Moira is dragged from the car by one of the boys and Jenny comes to her rescue with the tazer gun from the glove compartment. The boy lets Moira go when he sees the gun but he continues to taunt them, so Jenny shoots him with the tazer (ala Thelma and Louise). NOTE: Tazers can and do kill people. Later Jenny says that she hopes the boy is all right.

At The Planet, Billie emcees a successful charity casino event that draws a huge crowd. He is dressed like a drag queen and puts on quite a performance. Bette and David, Kit's son, disapprove of his over the top approach. Bette wants Kit to invite David to her house the next day when the social worker returns, so that the social worker can see that Angelica has a man in her life.

Jenny and Moira stop at a gay bar somewhere in the middle of nowhere and drink lots of tequila. Moira hits on another woman at the bar and Jenny gets jealous. They leave and go back to their hotel, where Jenny seduces Moira instead of responding to Moira's question about what she wants from their relationship.

Bette has a middle of the night meltdown about adopting Angelica, finding a new job, her relationship with Tina, and losing the house. She lies in bed awake and crying, trying to speak to a sleeping Tina, who never hears her.

David comes to the house but refuses to support Bette's adoption of Angelica, saying that he thinks Angelica will suffer from not having a mother and a father. He makes this statement in front of the social worker who shows up early.

Bette, confused about her life and her relationship with Tina, decides to go hear Mark Epstein, a Buddhist philosopher/psychiatrist give a talk.

For the love of Carmen, Shane goes to a traditional party with Carmen's family, wearing a white dress, cha cha heels, and hair extensions. Later, back home, Shane and Carmen have a hot scene, teasing each other about who is more feminine now.

Alice goes to Angelica's 6-month birthday party and realizes that the party really is for Angelica. Helena tells Bette and Tina that Alice thought the party was for her, so Bette and Tina add Alice's name to the birthday cake. Bette and Tina ask Angus to be a male nanny for Angelica and he accepts.

While they take a bubble bath together, Lara finds out that Dana forgot her doctor's appointment. Dana agrees to call Bette and Tina's gynecologist and make an appointment.

While Bette is at the Buddhist talk, Tina goes online into a chat room and has a little cybersex-with a man.

Roisin "Spotlight"

Jenny and Moira are rollin' in dey Ford-1-5-Oh!!! It's all Hip Hoppish and stuff. The music fades out a bit as Jenny stares in awe at a razor. I wonder if Ric Flair ever has moments like that?

Transientworld "China White"

It's Morning at the Planet as we're introduced to Billy The Eccentric Manager Guy.  Maybe HE knows what happened to Mark.  It's Transientworld whose sound should be familiar with L-fans.

Sweatshop Union "Try"

More rollin' da S To The U The Veeeeeeeee.........  Jenny goes down on Moira and they run out of fuel.  Like everyone else, I blame the Hip Hop Industry. ...Yes that's a joke.

Dyad "Red Rocking Chair"

Alice drops off some supplies at the Planet for Dana and Lara.  Too brief to notice the song, but a hilarious moment that almost put me on the floor. Ranks right up there with Tim and Randy's conversation about "the blow job guy."

Optimist Prime "Recovery"

They all just hang out at the Planet and talk.  In the background, all these songs almost sound alike.

Bottleneck "High Prairie"

Moira leaves the bathroom and we're treated to the word "Faggot" so many times, it's as if we've been invaded by Queer As Folk.  The song rocks nice and Jenny zzarkts some idiot.

Gerhard Golzo "Silk N Vice"

Plays as Billy The Eccentric Manager Guy welcomes everyone to the Planet, makes an off color joke involving condoms and Little League Baseball and then shows his ass.  The song is big bandish and whatnot while the scene is memorable as it causes me to question for the first time why I'm watching this.

Eldorado "Jaded Julie"

Jenny and Moira hit up a bar.  This must be their gimmick for Season 3. Good country stuff for the song.

Charlie Brissette "Cha's Cha Cha"

It's Vegas Night at the Planet and this plays while the Group Of Friends bet chips on whatever it is they're playing.  It's there.

Neko Case "Porchlight"

Slow drunken female country as Jenny and Moira waste away in the bar, before Moira dances with someone named Katrina.  Okay...find a way for Katrina to be part of the show, she's a winner.

Hermann Egger "Bottoms Up"

Kit and Bette chit chat as Bette discusses the merits of Billy The Eccentric Manager Guy's off color comments about Little League Baseball.

Maggie Moore & Yvette "The Lady Loves Me"

Performed on the show.  Have to admit, for a second I thought that was Ivan playing the guitar.  David's like shades of his Grandfather Melvin, I see. That shoulda been the sure sign right there not to rely on him for help for the adoption thing.

Danny Camero "Leonard The Swan"

Welcome to Nick Jr. Hell, as Alice and Helena arrive at the party.

Mambo! Mambo! Mambo! "Bonito Y Sabroso"

It's like a global representation of all of Latin America.  Different accents and everything.  Carmencita....I could get used to saying that. Boleros "Siempre En Mi Corazón"

Carmen dances with a very lucky guy.  Carmen's Mom seems pretty cool. Musta been hearbreaking for Luis for Carmen to cut in...and dance with Shane.  Maybe Luis'll go hang out with Mark..WHEREVER THE HELL HE IS!!!

Kayle "Whose Making You Cry"

Jenny and Moira invade yet another bar.  This time, it's a bar full of guys who look like displaced patrons of the Police Academy movie's Blue Oyster. Pop Dance stuff.

D'Angelo "Feel Like Makin' Love"

It's Shane.  It's Carmen.  It's Carmen removing her dress.  It's Shane and Carmen making out.  What more do ya need, really?  After dealing with Billy The Eccentric Manager Guy, this scene's reassuring.  And the song's pretty damn good to boot.

Tracy Bonham "Naked"

This takes us into the closing as Lindsey76 is about to set sail on a cyberring session with DaddyOf2.  Maybe DaddyOf2 knows what happened to Mark.  Hell, maybe it IS Mark.  Whoever it is, he types like a teenager.  I like Tracy, so I like that she's got a song here.

And that's that for this week.  Next week...more fun!
