Loyal
Summary by Stacy Turner
The opening scene shows a movie being filmed on set. A man walks into one
of the trailers and discovers another male actor having sex with a man. He
grabs the guy and throws him out of the trailer and then begins to yell at
the actor. He tells him that he can’t risk the other guy going to a
magazine and telling people that they guy was gay.
Alice and Dana are laying in bed together. The alarm clock goes off and Alice
hits snooze. She rolls over on top of Dana and begins to kiss her back until
Dana gets up and begins getting dressed. We find out that the girls have spent
quality time having sex that they had forgotten that it was Monday. Alice
tells Dana that she has to come up with and idea for her radio commentator
interview the next day, and Dana is supposed to be training.
Mark is working on his documentary. You see him looking at Shane on his monitor.
Shane is staring into a mirror looking at her face that has cuts and a bruise,
it almost looks like she is regretful.
Bette is at the Planet waiting for Tina to arrive. Once Tina gets there Bette
tells her that she called their old therapist and is thinking about going
back to him. Tina tells her that they should focus more on the baby, but Bette
assures her that it’s not a couple’s therapy session, it’s
just for Bette. Tina seems very happy for Bette, and they start discussing
the baby.
Carmen and Jenny are walking down the street discussing Jenny’s writing
teacher. Carmen tells her that she thinks that Jenny has a crush on her. Jenny
denies it and as they get to the front of the Planet the two stop and keep
discussing it. Carmen tells her that it’s ok if she likes her and that
she should go for it. Jenny looks disappointed and Carmen asks her if she
wants her to be more jealous. Jenny says yes, and the two start kissing.
Bette and Tina are discussing the babies next ultrasound. Bette tells her
that she would really like it if she could attend the next one and Tina says
yes. As they are talking Helena walks in to pickup Tina. Helena mentions the
fact that they are going to be house hunting later in the day. Bette looks
shocked, but Tina tells her that it’s not for them, it’s just
for Helena.
Mark and Gomey are having a meeting with a guy about their movie. The guy
tells him that if they want him to agree to distribute his movie he needs
more sex. Mark tries to tell him that the movie isn’t just about sex.
It’s about opening up a new world and showing what really happens. The
guy doesn’t seem impressed so they agree to add more sex scenes.
Dana is lifting weights while Alice is working on her ideas for the radio
show. Alice asks Dana if she can read her what she has so far. Dana agrees
and listens to Alice who is using a “radio voice” to tell her
the program she has planned. Dana points out that Alice is a bit redundant
in some places and that she might not be using the right words to which Alice
looks annoyed.
Tina and Helena are looking at a house with a real estate agent. While the
man is telling Helena about the house Tina walks around to look at things.
When Tina is in the kitchen Helena walks in and begins kissing her. She lifts
her up on the counter and Helena begins to have sex with her. The real estate
agent walks in on them and the girls stop what they were doing.
Shane walks out of her house and Mark sees her. He asks her how she has been
since he hasn’t seen her in a few days. She says that she is better
and then tells him that she has to go to work. When she leaves he goes inside
and Gomey is going through the footage trying to find sex scenes. He comes
across the video of Shane looking at herself in the mirror and he gets upset.
He tells Mark that he thinks that he has a crush on Shane and that is preventing
him from getting his work done.
Bette is in her office and Franklin and Leo, the fundraiser guy, walk in
and tell her the have some good news. They tell her that Helena Peabody is
going to be joining their next meeting along with another very important artist.
Bette asks if she can go over the material before they have the meeting but
Franklin tells Bette that Leo can handle it.
Tina and Helena are looking at another house. As they are looking around
Helena’s phone rings and she starts yelling at the person on the other
end. She tells them that she is paying them to get her kids to be able to
stay in LA with her and until they do that don’t call her back. Tina
asks if the real estate agent can show her the kitchen. As they are walking
down the stairs, Helena hangs up the phone and asks Tina what she thinks about
the place. Tina says that it’s spectacular and Helena tells the guy
that she will move in tomorrow.
Bette is at home and there is a knock on the door. She opens it up and Winnie,
Helena’s ex, and her two kids are there. Winnie thanks Bette for agreeing
to meet with her. While they are talking Winnies son starts to play with one
of the art pieces, and Bette rushes over. She asks them if they would like
to go swimming to which they say yes. Winnie tells her that she isn’t
much of a swimmer and asks Bette to go in with them instead. Once they get
in the pool Winnie asks Bette if she can be a character witness in the custody
trial. Bette tells her that she would love to, but she doesn’t know
if she can.
Alice and Dana are sitting on the couch. Alice is working on her radio program
ideas still and Dana is watching television. Alice asks Dana to listen to
her new idea. Dana tells her that it’s good, but it’s just not
Alice’s style and that she needs to be funny. Alice tells her that she
doesn’t understand why everyone thinks that she is funny, to which Dana
tells her it is because she is a funny lady and that’s one of the things
that she loves about her. Alice pouts and Dana grabs her and pulls her down
the couch towards her. Alice tells Dana that she really wants her to have
sex with her using a strap-on. Dana is hesitant at first but then tells Alice
that she will.
Shane is getting ready to walk out of her room and she spots Carmen so she
goes back in and closes the door. Carmen walks into Shane’s room and
tells her that she noticed what she did and she thinks that she is hiding
from her. Carmen notices that Shane is wearing sunglasses and she takes them
off to discover her black eye. Carmen asks who did it and Shane tells her
that it was her. Carmen gets upset and goes to leave, but Shane stops her
and apologizes and tells her that she wants to be friends.
Jenny and Carmen are kissing on a couch watching a movie starring the man
that Jenny is going to help write with. Mark walks in and asks why they are
watching that movie and Jenny tells him. Mark starts to talk about the action
star and Jenny and him get into a debate about movies. Mark then asks where
Shane is and Carmen tells him that she thinks that Shane went out.
We see Shane in a confessional. She says that she hasn’t confessed
in 16 years. She then goes on to say that people want things from her, that
she just can’t give. She also says that she has sex with a lot of people
and that is her way of dealing with it.
Alice is getting out of the shower and hears Dana say something. She gets
out and discovers that Dana has a hickey on her neck. Alice jokes around and
says that it’s because she bruises too easily and Dana tells her that
she isn’t the only one. Alice looks in the mirror to discover two dark
hickeys on her neck. Alice is freaking out because she has the job interview
and Dana because she has a photo shoot with a women’s health magazine.
Alice and Dana show up at the Planet while the gang is there. Jenny mentions
that she hasn’t seen them for a few days and Dana and Alice say that
they have been working and training. Tina walks up behind them and tells everyone
that they have been having sex all week. We see that she has brought Helena
with her and Bette invites them to join the group. Jenny brings up the fact
that Alice and Dana have been having sex all week and the girls discover the
hickey’s on their necks. Bette then tells everyone that she has to go
to work. Helena tells her that she and the rest of the gang should go over
to her new house and have a little house warming party.
Shane is in the kitchen and Mark walks in. He asks if he has done anything
to offend her and she says no. She then thanks him for helping her out that
one day when she was getting beat up.
Jenny goes to the former action stars home to work on his memoirs. She tells
him that she has always wanted to be a writer and he tells her that he knows
what it’s like because he has always wanted to be an actor. They talk
about Jenny’s writing style, and then Jenny mentions Carmen. She tells
him that her girlfriend has seen all her movies, and he ends the interview
and tells her that he will call her back if he needs her. She asks if he’s
firing her because she’s gay, and he says that he doesn’t like
that stuff flaunted in his face.
Alice is working on her radio program at the Planet. She tells Kit her idea,
and then Kit tells her that she has to go talk with the new chef that she
hired. Gabby walks in and gives Alice a hug. Gabby tells Alice that she is
in love and Alice tells Gabby that she is in love also. Then Gabby introduces
Alice to her new girlfriend, Lara and Alice finds out that she is also the
new chef Kit hired. Alice looks shocked when she sees the two of them together,
and then tells them that she has to go.
Alice is at her radio interview and she starts telling Mimi about her run
in with Lara and Gabby. She then goes on the talk about the chart and how
people are connected. Once Alice is done rambling Mimi tells her that she
thinks that they have enough, to which Alice looks shocked. It seems as if
they were recording Alice the entire time and like the concept of the chart
for her new show.
Bette is in the board meeting with Helena and her artist friend in attendance.
Everyone is sucking up to the artist to try and get her work shown there,
but not Bette. We then find out that Bette actually wrote a paper on some
of her earlier work. The artist remembers her article and the two start talking.
Jenny and Carmen are sitting on a porch. Jenny tells Carmen that she got
fired from ghost writing the actor’s memoirs because she was gay. While
they are talking Shane goes over to Mark’s and asks if he wants to hang
out next door at Bette’s house and he says yes after Shane convinces
him.
Alice tells Dana that she got the radio show and Dana is proud of her. She
asks Alice why she wound up choosing the concept of the chart over all her
other idea’s. Alice tells Dana that she ran into Gabby earlier in the
day and she wanted to be friends. Dana tells her that she doesn’t think
that they should be friends with their exes. Alice asks her if she would be
friends with Lara to which Dana says maybe. The phone rings and Dana answers
it. It’s Jenny and she tells them that they aren’t going to Helena’s
anymore, so the plans change.
Helena and Tina are sitting in Helena’s new home with a bunch of food
in front of them. Helena seems very upset that no one showed up to her housewarming
party. Tina tells her that it’s somewhat nice that they didn’t
show up because now they get to be alone together in her brand new house.
Bette is in her kitchen and she hears a knock. She turns around and the whole
gang is there and they all come inside. Bette is shocked because she thought
that everyone was going to go to Helena’s instead. They decide to order
pizza and they all sit around the table and have some wine. They all congratulate
Alice on her new radio show and she seems embarrassed when Dana mentions her
radio voice. Bette leans against the wall with a huge smile on her face because
all her friends are together.

Lauren Lee Smith (and cheers went up around the globe!)
Michael Tomlinson
Sara Botsford
Guinevere Turner
Music,
including Scene by Scene breakdown by Kace of What
the L Radio!)
First off, nice take on the L theme by EZ in the opening of the show for
our
obligatory flashback sequence.
Nasty On "Ship That Died Of Shame"
Mark spies on Shane who inspects her black eye as this rock song plays. The
lyrics sounded fun if nothing else.
Ridley Bent "Pastures Of Heaven"
Playing at the Planet as Bette and Tina have a chat. Alternative R&B as
I
like to this particular sound. Sounds like it could be catchy if I got to
hear the whole thing.
East Mezzoz "Get Back At It"
A minute or two later at the Planet as Helena arrives to kill the good mood
provided by Bette and Tina. Love that subtle tension. Good beat to the
song.
Quick Note: Those interested in Radio please don't use Alice's "radio"
voice
as she rehearses it to Dana.
Nine "Vol 4"
Much MUCH later in the show as we return to the Planet with this R&B bit
of
fun. The group has a nice chat in which Helena again joins in and looks to
dominate. This scene also reminds us all that Kit's still around.
Apparently she lives at the Planet now.
Ulali "Mahk Jchi"
In the car as Jenny arrives to chat with Burt Conor.
BETTY "Dolls & Bennies"
This plays as the moment I've been waiting for since the end of the Season
1
L'ennui episode happens with the Return of Lara!!! But first we get the
Return of Gabby and the news of Lara and Gabby being an item. Lara's got it
like that, what can I say? As for the song itself, well it's BETTY! I've
gotten hooked on the group lately so I'm biased here in saying that the
song's good.
Another Quick Note: Early in Season 2, we have a photo of Joyce The Lawyer
and Bill Clinton. In this episode, we have Alice claiming to be linked to
Monica Lewinsky. All the Disney Monarch slaves are now cued to sing, "It's
A Small, Small World."
Lola Dutronic "Les Cheveaux De Mon Amor"
Plays at Helena & Tina's "party" which is attended by....Helena
and Tina.
It's moderate French dance music. Not something I'd run out to a store
and damand, but not exactly crap.
Ron Sexsmith "Tell Me Again"
The friends (skipping Helena's) head over to Bette's in the heartwarming
moment of the show for Family Night. One thing I like about this is that
the sound of the song harkens a bit back to the Season 1 feel. But maybe
that's just me. This song also takes us to the credits.
