 Lynch Pin

by Stacy Turner

Sunday, March 13 at 10pm ET/PT

We are introduced to Helena Peabody in the opening scene. She is in an office with her therapist. She begins to take her jacket off and the therapist asks her to stop. It seems that they have had some kind of physical encounter before and the therapist is afraid that she may lose her license if it happens again. Helena is very seductive and they wind up having sex again.

Tina, Alice, and Dana are at the Planet having coffee. Shane and Jenny walk in holding hands and they look like they are really happy being roommates. Alice asks everyone what they would do for a day if they had a penis. Shane says that she would pee standing up on every bush that she could find. The girls seemed shocked by her answer and Jenny asks if she really wouldn’t try to have sex with a lot of girls. Shane responds by saying that she doesn’t need a penis to do that. The girls laugh and then Jenny says that she thinks that she would have a small penis. The girls look at her strangely, and she says it would be a good thing because men with small penises try and please women a lot harder. Tina tells Jenny that she definitely thinks she is a lesbian. Kit walks over and thanks Alice for the massage gift certificates that she gave her, and tells her that when Bette gets back from New York they will use them. Tina looks somewhat surprised at the fact that Bette left and s he didn’t know about it.

Bette is stepping out of a taxi in New York. She seems very upset because Helena Peabody has cancelled their appointment. She is talking to James on the phone and tells him that she flew all the way out there to talk with her. He gets the meeting rescheduled for the next day.

Shane and Jenny are interviewing potential third roommates. The first girl tells them that her real name is Linda but she goes by Fef because it’s more memorable. She really wants to be a actress and her current job is playing an extra in movies. She keeps talking about how much she wants to be on TV and the girls just stare at her. When the interview is over they decide that they have to make up signals to cut the interviews short.

Tina and her lawyer go over to the Bette’s house to take inventory. Tina’s lawyer seems very impressed by all the art and things in the house and has a feeling that they will be getting a lot of money. Even things that Bette got before Tina and her met gets put on the lawyer’s list and it seems if Tina is uncomfortable with that, but she doesn’t say anything.

Shane and Jenny are interviewing another potential roommate. He seems like a very well put together guy. Just as they are about to show him to his new studio, he tells them that there is something that they should know. We find out that he is a nudist and the girls seem to not like the idea of a man walking around their house naked and move on from him. Another girl comes over and has very strict rules that she wants everyone to live by, needless to say they both decide that they don’t want her moving in.

Kit goes to some kind of business seminar hosted by a man named Benjamin Bradshaw. We see him onstage and he has a way of making people feel good about themselves. He goes around the room asking people what kind of animal they see themselves as. He asks Kit what her animal is and she says an alley cat. He describes characteristics of an alley cat and it very much describes the way that Kit feels about herself.

Tina is working on some work projects and her lawyer walks in to check on her. Tina says that she’s trying not to think about the whole Bette situation and she’s throwing herself into her work. Her lawyer tells her that she deserves to be fully appreciated and the way that Bette treated her was wrong.

Jenny is in the kitchen working on her story and Shane walks in. Jenny stops typing and tells Shane that if they don’t find another roommate soon then she wont be able to afford the rent. Shane tells her the same thing and they both laugh. As Shane is walking back to her room she asks Shane if she is ok with what happened between her and Carmen at the Planet. Shane tells her its ok, and tells Jenny that she will invite Carmen over for her so that they can hang out and get to know each other.

Benjamin Bradshaw is signing books and Kit walks up. He somewhat flirts with her and tells her that she needs to come back to his advanced workshop in a few weeks.

Shane is on the set of a movie doing someone’s hair. One of the actresses throws a tantrum and holds up the production of it. The director of the movie is really angry and tells them to find someone to deal with her. As she is talking Shane walks over to the actress and calms her down. In the process she calls the director a crazy bitch, which the director hears on her headphones. She tells one of her assistants to send Shane to her trailer when the actress goes back to work.

Bette goes to meet with Helena Peabody. It seems as if Helena isn’t as interested as her mother was in the arts. Helena hasn’t even read the proposal that The CAC has sent her. She tells Bette that she could feed so many children with the $35,000 that the art center wants. As they are talking Helena’s kids run through the door to see her. Helena gets distracted talking to her kids, and tells Bette that she will look at the proposal and get back to her as soon as possible.

Shane goes to speak with the director. She seems very upset with Shane for calling her a crazy bitch. Shane tells her that her work day is over and that she is going to leave but the director stops her. She tells her that she is really impressed with the way that Shane handled the actress, since they usually spend hours trying to calm her down and with Shane it only took her five minutes. The director tells her that she wants her to be her new assistant.

Jenny is at home interviewing a potential roommate. She seems like a very nice girl. Shane walks in and apologizes for being late. The girl gives them a strange looks and then asks if they are together. Jenny and Shane laugh and say that they are just roommates. The girl tells them that at her church they have a program that can help them get out of the homosexual lifestyle to which they tell her goodbye. As soon as she leaves there is another knock at the door. They open the door and there is a guy with a camera. We find out that his name is Mark and he is interested in directing movies. They decide to let him move in since her can pay them upfront and seems like a nice guy.

Tonya, Dana, Alice and her date are all at a fair. While Alice is talking to her date, Chris, we can see Dana in the background with a jealous look on her face. Alice tells them that she is going to the restroom and Dana says that she’s going to go keep Alice company while Tonya and Chris go on the Ferris Wheel. Alice walks away and Dana storms off after her calling her name. Alice turns around and is confronted by Dana who asks her if she has to flirt with him. Alice tells her that Tonya was the one that set them up, and asks Dana what she wants from her. Dana leans in and gives Alice a very sweet kiss.

Bette goes to see Peggy Peabody to talk about Helena. Peggy is getting a massage with her boyfriend. Peggy tells Bette not to worry, and that since Helena hasn’t said no yet there is still a chance that she will give her money for the CAC.

Bette goes to a gay club in New York and orders a drink. As she is sitting at the bar she looks over and sees a girl. She has a look of lust in her eyes and when she finishes her drink she walks over to the girl and asks her if she wants to dance. While that is going on with Bette, Tina walks over to her lawyers house and places an orchid on the step as a sign of appreciation.

Shane and Jenny are having a little get together with Carmen, Alice and a few other friends. Shane is laying down on the couch with a girl and when Carmen sees them start kissing she gets jealous and leaves. Jenny seems somewhat upset.

Tina’s lawyer goes over to thank Tina for giving her the orchid. Tina’s lawyer asks her for a hug and then kisses her. Tina kisses her back for a second and them tells her that she can’t. Her lawyer once again kisses her and she gets up and tells her no. We see Tina leaving the guesthouse with some of her things.

Shane tells the girls that Bette said that they could use her pool whenever they want. So everyone but Jenny goes skinny dipping. As Jenny is walking by, Mark asks if he can talk with her. He asks her if she is gay and Jenny says that she doesn’t know.

Bette stumbles into her hotel room with the girl from the bar. She then proceeds to kiss her and they wind up having sex. The next morning Bette is sitting by the window playing with her wedding band and looks over to see the girl still laying on the bed asleep.

Jenny is in the kitchen sitting on a chair and asks Shane if she will cut her hair short. Shane says yeah and as she begins to cut it Jenny cries a little.

Jane Lynch
Holland Taylor
Camryn Manheim
Meredith McGeachie .... Tonya
Luciana Carro .... Lisa (she played one of Shane's girlfriend's in Season 1)
Mimi Kuzyk

Anyone catch the actor who played "Jean Paul" (ze penis...ze pussy...ze baby) as part of Camryn Manheim's crew?

Music (scene by scene breakdown by Kace of What the L Radio!)

Sweatshop Union "Today"

Welcome to the Planet and the very fun Penis Conversation. Shane almost inspires me to try something, but I shall not. Fun Hip Hop number to give an idea of what Kit's Planet is like.

Franck "Panis Angelicus"

Classical Style that plays as Bette talks to Peggy, her Italian Beau and the Translator who probably sees enough of Peggy at this point to write a book.

Kruder & Dorfmeister "Sofa Rockers"

Bette enters a place called Starlight to have a drink. Midtempo dance song. Bette wants a Martini, Absolutely.

Joystick "Goodtimes"

One song later, Bette gets her drink. Good song to slow dance to, as Bette demonstrates.

The Cinch "Talk Talk"

Alice enters Jenny's house with some beer and this moderate rock song is playing. There used to be a band called Talk Talk, who actually had a song by the same title.

Brigitte Bardot "Pas Davantage"

Later at the get-together at Jenny's as Gabby is mentioned. Oh God, no... I can't recite the words to this song, but I'm guessing it's French. And there goes Carmen.

Controller-Controller "Disco Blackout"

Later on at the same get-together as Gomey, the Idiot Sidekick to Mark stares through the window. Upbeat song and not all that bad from what little I heard of it.

Broken Social Scene "Lovers Spit"

Nice soothing Piano Music as a drunken Bette engages in her tryst for the evening. I'm not sure if she's moving on or just giving up here. Sad music for a hot, steamy yet very sad scene, all things considered. Continues as Gomey shuffles off for the evening (say hi to Gabby, pal) and Mark engages in a conversation with Jenny while Shane & Co. have fun in Bette's pool. See, unlike Bette, Shane knows how to have a good time in a swimming pool.

Iron & Wine "Naked As We Came"

Plays at the end as Jenny gets her haircut and we roll the closing credits.
