Lawfully Episode Summary

Alice is shocked to learn that her mother Lenore's flirtation with Shane at the party resulted in them sharing a kiss. When Shane offers confirmation of the kiss, Alice reacts with extreme disgust and ships her mother off to her brother's.

Shane is scoped out at The Planet by Harry Samchuck, a powerful Hollywood executive whom Shane is convinced mistakes her for a male. She runs into Clive, a troubled old friend who enlists her help in finding a place to stay. Later Clive tells Shane about Harry Samchuck's interest in her and reveals that he is staying with Harry. Shane reacts with dismay and reminds Clive of the error of their past ways. She eventually relents and allows Clive to stay with her.

Tina suffers from severe morning sickness. She and Bette discuss the best way to go about revealing the news of Tina's pregnancy to Bette's father, Melvin, who is in town for a visit.

Kit attempts to compose a letter to her son David. When she arrives at Bette and Tina's house bearing a box of pre-natal vitamins, she is dismayed to discover that they are having dinner with her father, as she was unaware that he was in town. Bette is angered when she comes home to discover that Tina informed Kit of their dinner plans, fearing the disappointment will cause Kit to begin drinking.

Dana's manager, Conrad, interrupts an intimate moment between Dana and Lara and reveals that Subaru is throwing a party in Dana's honor. He suggests she bring her doubles partner, Harrison, in order to maintain appearances. As Dana prepares to attend the party with Harrison, Lara arrives bearing dresses, clearly unaware that she will not be escorting Dana to the party. When she realizes the error in her assumption, she quickly leaves, clearly hurt. Harrison attempts to reassure Dana that remaining in the closet is best for her career.

As Tim prepares to leave for a swim competition, he discovers that he has forgotten his lucky stopwatch. Upon returning home to retrieve it, he discovers Marina and Jenny having sex in Jenny's writing studio. Marina departs wordlessly as Tim stares at Jenny, aghast at her betrayal.

Dinner with Melvin is a rather strained affair as he reacts less than enthusiastically to the news of Tina's pregnancy. He refutes the notion that the child is his grandchild as it has no biological connection to him while all the while denying the true nature of Bette and Tina's relationship. Tina, less than enamored with Melvin, departs the dinner in frustration and returns home alone.

Following the swim meet, Tim encounters a distressed Jenny outside of the sports complex begging for his forgiveness. As she attempts to justify her actions she offers up the lie that what Tim saw was the first and only physical encounter between them. She implores him to stay with her and declares her love and desire to be his wife. Tim and Jenny arrive at The Planet where Jenny tells Marina that what happened was a mistake and that she will never see her again. Marina confirms the lie that what he saw was their sole physical encounter.

In a desperate attempt to salvage their relationship, Tim and Jenny drive to Tahoe for a quickie marriage. Tim's obvious discomfort and rebuff of Jenny's sexual advances sour their wedding night. In the clearer light of day, he realizes the error of their decision and leaves the hotel sans Jenny.

Dana arrives at Lara's apartment following the party and apologizes for her behavior. She begs forgiveness and tries to get Lara to understand the professional demands surrounding her. Lara assures Dana that she wants to pursue a relationship with her but needs Dana to begin the process of coming out.

Following dinner Bette arrives at Kit's home to find Kit enjoying a drink in the midst of a party. She apologizes for keeping Melvin's appearance a secret and expresses disappointment over his reaction to news of the pregnancy. Kit, who does not view Melvin in the same glowing light that Bette does, goes to her father's hotel and berates him for his behavior at dinner. She also passes along a return note to her son, David.

Tim's hasty return to Los Angeles is interrupted by a bigoted police officer who pulls him over for speeding and attempts to dispel the straight male fantasies of two women together. Meanwhile, Jenny awakens in Tahoe to discover her solitude and Tim's abandoned wedding ring.
