Locked Up Episode Summary

Shane continues to fend off the advances of Cherie's daughter, Clea. She tells her about her past as a prostitute in Santa Monica and reveals that she is currently in love with someone else.

Marina confides in Kit about her financial troubles. Francesca wants to be bought out of The Planet and Marina is having trouble figuring out a way to come up with the money. Kit agrees to help her come up with a plan to raise the money but dismisses Marina's suggestion that she borrow the money from Bette.

Over dinner, Tim tells Jenny that he has ended things with Trish and is pursuing a teaching degree while Jenny tells him she is working on a story about manatees and has a date with Robin. Tim gives her permission to use the kitchen to prepare for her date.

Kit hosts a drag king night at The Planet where she meets Ivan, a fellow recovering alcoholic who takes a particular liking to Kit.

Alice points out Robin, the woman Jenny connected with in Palm Springs, to Shane and Marina. Marina takes note and begins pursuing her, despite Robin's hesitation. Similar to her initial encounters with Jenny, Marina tries to woo her with books, but Robin is unimpressed.

Tina, increasingly busy with her duties at the center, is unable to pick up Bette's dry-cleaning, which does not sit well with Bette.

Dana leaves instructions for Mr. Piddles' medical care to Tanya, who is clearly not happy with the assignment.

While reviewing plans for the Provocations exhibit, Bette and Candace find themselves in particularly close quarters. Bette tells Candace that what happened between them the other night can never happen again. Candace agrees but shortly thereafter, Bette is overcome with desire and moves in as if to kiss her. They are interrupted by James informing them of a situation outside.

A large crowd gathers outside of the CAC to protest the opening of the Provocations exhibit. When they threaten to block an incoming shipment of artwork, Candace proposes forming a human blockade to usher the shipment inside. The situation quickly gets out of hand when Candace physically confronts one of the pushier protesters. The police step in and arrest several of the participants, including Bette, Alice, Shane, Dana, and Candace. As they are being loaded into the paddy wagon, Bette is forced onto Candace's lap and nearly kisses her, but manages to control herself.

Jenny visits the aquarium to research her manatee story. While there she meets, Gene, a biologist who offers to help Jenny with the details of her story over dinner.

After the ladies are booked and make their phone calls, they are led to their cells. Bette and Candace are labeled "high-risk" and placed in a cell separate from everyone else. Bette admits that being in such close quarters with Candace is a great temptation. Candace proposes playing an alphabet game to keep their minds, and hands, occupied.
When they reach the letter W, however, they realize they are in trouble.

Kit and Ivan try unsuccessfully to elicit some information from the desk guard at the jail. Ivan retreats to secure some bail bonds. Franklin arrives to post bail for Bette but is made to wait while the bureaucratic wheels spin.

Jenny has dinner with Robin where they trade stories about first loves and first times. Despite his assurance that he would not be home until later, Tim hosts a group of noisy friends in the back yard. Due to the awkwardness of the situation, Robin decides to leave. After unsuccessfully trying to arrange another date, Jenny escorts Robin outside and plants a kiss on her in full view of Tim and his cheering friends. As Jenny clears away the dinner plates, she receives a call from Gene, with whom she agrees to go on a date with.

Unable to stand the tension any longer, Bette takes herself across the cell and presses against the wall. Candace lies back on the cot and the conversation quickly becomes erotic. The two of them masturbate after which Bette declares her need for a cigarette. They are quickly snapped back into reality with the announcement that their bail has been posted and they are free to go.

As they make their way into the waiting area, Bette introduces Candace to Tina who has finally arrived with Oscar. Kit introduces Bette to Ivan and mistakenly refers to her as "he". As rides home are arranged, Shane decides to wait at the police station for Cherie. Several hours and unsuccessful phone calls later, Shane is still left waiting.

Tim apologizes to Jenny for his friends' behavior and asks if her attraction to women was a result of his inadequacy but she assures him of his goodness.
